Reduction in Force

Voluntary Options now OPEN!

Proffers for Overage Leaves, Modified Partnership Flying and Voluntary Travel Separation Program have opened to address current overages projected by the company. We strongly encourage anyone interested in a leave, part-time flying or is considering resigning to give these options consideration. Full details of the options and election ballots are posted on the Flight Service website (Jetnet login required).

  • If you are a low-time or no-time flyer, you might find particular interest in these options. The Overage Leave and Travel Separation Options starting February 28 (the actual start date for leaves/travel separation commencing March 2010) may save you a significant amount for the cost of your health care benefits. (see below)

All proffers close on Friday, January 22, 2010 at 1700 Central Time. Before electing any of the options please review the corresponding Q and As and other applicable documents for the option you are electing. In addition thoroughly read the ballot as it contains important information and instructions. Once awarded one of these options it is irrevocable so please ensure you know all the details of the option you are electing.

  • Overage Leaves are being offered for March through November. Several smaller auxiliary blocks are also available.

Please note that the new deadline for the ARRA COBRA subsidy is February 28, 2010. Therefore the actual start date for any new overage leave beginning in March will actually be February 28, 2010. If you are awarded an overage leave or travel separation program beginning in March and have a trip that touches February 28 you will be removed from that trip.

There are additional eligibility factors for the COBRA subsidy such as income thresholds, ability to obtain healthcare coverage elsewhere, currently taking active benefits from American. Click here to go to the Department of Labor site with details on the COBRA subsidy.

  • Modified Partnership Flying will be offered for the months of March, April and May. This proved to be very popular last fall. Remember you do not need a partner to bid for Modified Partnership Flying. This is virtually identical to the old Part-time.

It is important to note that there will NOT be a furlough if all projected overages are not satisfied by these proffers. However we encourage all of our members in a position to take time off or fly a reduced schedule to give these options consideration.
