The House of Representatives has added a provision to the FAA Reauthorization Bill that would force the National Mediation Board (NMB) to revert back to the old voting rules for union elections. The vote is scheduled to take place this week. This provision must be removed from the FAA Bill.

The old rule automatically assigned “no” votes to workers who were eligible to vote in an election but did not participate. On July 1, 2010, that rule was changed so that now, the NMB only counts votes that were actually cast in a union election.
 
American citizens would not allow this type of voting in presidential or congressional elections - why should we allow it in union elections?

Congress’ attempt to intervene with airline organizing is just one more example of how unions are under attack in this country. The recent events in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana are indicative of a much larger effort on the part of some politicians who are anti worker's rights. In Wisconsin, Gov. Walker's assault on public employees was an effort to dismantle all unions that began with stripping them of their collective bargaining rights.
 
Allowing Congress to interfere with the ability to organize will have a direct and devastating effect on all of us by opening the door to further stifling the voice of the middle class.
