Hello. Today is Sunday, February 9, 2003. This is George Price, APFA National Communications Coordinator with a special APFA Hotline Update.
American Airlines notified the APFA yesterday that the United States Government has activated the Civil Reserve Air Fleet, or CRAF. American will provide two (2) 777 Pacific and three (3) 767-300s for Phase I of the operation. All language of Appendix E, Part 2 will apply to this flying. The APFA and American are in talks on exemptions to existing contract language that would allow APFA members to man all CRAF flights.
A CRAF reserve list will soon be created utilizing, in seniority order, an as yet determined number of Flight Attendants whose names appear on the system wide CRAF volunteer list. If you are not certain of your desire to man CRAF flights and you have already put your name on the volunteer list, it is imperative that you remove your name from the volunteer list prior to the reserve pool being created. Once assigned to the CRAF reserve pool, a ninety-day commitment is required. Again, please refer to Appendix E, Part 2 of the Contract for details.
More information on CRAF flying including medical and volunteer information is contained on the Friday, February 7th APFA Hotline and on the APFA Web site under “Hot Topics.”
Now, please stay on the line for the Friday, February 7th edition of the APFA Hotline.
