02.15.06

Hello. This is Denise Pointer, DFW InfoRep, with the InfoRep Hotline for Wednesday February 15, 2006.
It’s been a very busy couple of weeks around APFA and that trend does not appear to be changing any time soon! I wanted to take a few moments to recap some very important announcements that were made last week.
APFA announced an agreement with AA on the speaker provisions that are to remain in effect during this period of limited growth. For a complete recap of the agreement, please go to www.www.apfa.org.
A Presidential Grievance was filed against the Executive Bonuses scheduled for payment to 973 managers at AA. The payout is scheduled for April 19th. The arbitration date has been tentatively set for March 7-9 with Arbitrator Robert Harris, the former NMB Chair, as the agreed neutral. The arbitration will consist of a seven-member System Board composed of three management-appointed reps, three labor-appointed reps and the neutral arbitrator. The attorneys for all four parties (APFA, APFA TWU and AA) have been in preliminary discussions relating to the exchange of documents and the witness list. Discussions will continue up to the point of arbitration.
The continuation of the Family Leave Arbitration will be held February 16 and 17th in Boston at the Sheraton Four Points Boston Logan Hotel. All members in good standing are welcome to attend. The arbitration will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the 16th. This arbitration will address the remedy of the first Family Leave Award.
Based on membership feedback and discussions at the recent Joint Scheduling Committee meeting, APFA and the Company have reached an agreement to further enhance flexibilities for deadheading Flight Attendants. Additional details can be found on the Contract Administration page of the APFA web site.
APFA’s Annual Convention will be held at our long layover hotel in Los Angeles, the Ayres Hotel (www.ayreshotels.com) from February 20-24, 2006.
On Monday, February 20th, prior to the official commencement of the convention, Gerard Arpey and Jeff Brundage are scheduled to meet with the Board of Directors. On Friday, February 24th, a more formal delegation of AA Senior Management will meet with the Board including Dan Garton and Lauri Curtis.
All members in good standing are welcome and encouraged to attend the convention. It is APFA’s goal to keep the meeting open to members, so please be mindful that your Base Chair is your representative voice during this business meeting. This convention is not a Town Hall meeting with open dialogue, but rather a place for APFA members to observe their Union at work.
Following the first day of business on February 20th, which will include the nomination of one Ad Hoc position and discussion on the annual budget, the APFA will be honoring twelve people as award recipients on Monday evening at the awards banquet. For additional details or for reservation information, please go to www.www.apfa.org or call 817 540-0108 Ext 8121.
Also, don’t forget classroom space is limited so if you are planning on attending any of the training classes or workshops offered on February 20th, you must pre-register. This can be done by calling 817-540-0108 Ext 8200.
I have mentioned numerous times in the past few months that APFA retirement specialist Jill Frank Smoak has announced her own retirement. I want to encourage everyone who is even remotely thinking about retiring to try to attend one of Jill’s seminars before she retires! In addition to the workshop on the 20th at the convention, she will be co-conducting two Flight Attendant specific retirement seminars in February with AA’s retirement counselor Karyn Mally. The first will be in the Miami Dade auditorium on February 27 at 3:30 PM and the second will be held in SJU on February 28 at 2 PM in the PIQ room above Gate 9. Future seminars include LGA, JFK and ORD in March and DFW, LAX and SFO in April. Dates and locations will be announced as soon as plans are finalized.
The roll out of the new "Onboard Sales Recorder" or OSR is scheduled for this spring. As a result of this, AA will be reissuing flight attendant ID badges. The new crew ID badge will have a magnetic stripe that will allow flight attendants to swipe their ID card to log on to the OSR, These new crew ID badges will be available starting Feb. 10, 2006, and must be picked up by March 17, 2006. Your current ID badge must be turned in when you pick up your new ID badge.
AA flights into and out of Love Field to St. Louis and Kansas City will begin March 2, 2006. Currently, the flights covered by STL crews will be multi day trips and for DFW crews, the flights will be turns.
We have a new layover property in Cabo San Lucas. Our new crew layover is now the all *inclusive Crowne Plaza, www.cploscabos.com.
Please encourage your co-workers to sign up to become InfoReps. The signup form is on the home page at www.www.apfa.org. I look forward to seeing many of you on Monday February 20, 2006.
