Attention Info Reps:
Wednesday, March 29th, APFA and TWU, Local 556, which represents the Flight Attendants at Southwest, jointly hosted a summit on Flight Attendant fatigue. The leadership of most Flight Attendant unions were in attendance. APFA is very hopeful that this summit will result in the unions moving forward jointly to address the critical issue of flight attendant fatigue.
Continuing the theme of fatigue, the leadership of APFA has recently unveiled the " We’re Restless " campaign. Please visit the APFA website at www.www.apfa.org to download your "Declaration of UnRest " and the official "We’re Restless" bag tag.
Please access the website and participate in the sharing of your fatigue stories. We will keep you updated as this campaign moves into full swing. As always, your participation is critical to its success.
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for May 11th. That is the date of our "Fly-In" in Washington, D.C. We will be gathering that morning to lobby on the Hill. Several topics will be addressed including fuel prices, pension reform and flight attendant fatigue. Please try to be a part of this very important day!
Merrill Lynch upgraded AMR stock to its "buy" list this week from its previous "neutral rating." After their announcement, AMR stock rose 11 percent to close at $11.03. AMR was the sector’s most active stock at 14 million shares. The analysts reported on Wednesday that the company should lose less money than expected, now $1.25 a share in the March quarter — narrower than the $3.15 estimate.
Rumor Control: We have received lots of questions this week concerning the rumor about flight attendants having to share rooms on layovers. No, this is not true! Please refer to last week’s APFA general hotline for an explanation of hotel rooms during field beaks. To recap, Article 7.L.5 solely deals with DAY rooms, not regular layover rooms.
