Flight Attendants Protest American Airlines
(04/17/07 — RALEIGH) – They say they made sacrifices and now they're not being rewarded for them. Tuesday morning more than two dozen frustrated American Airlines flight attendants protested at RDU International Airport.
The attendants say in 2003 they helped bring the airline back from the brink of bankruptcy by pay cuts, work rules and benefits. Now that the company is profitable again, the workers say they've been left out in the cold.
Peggy Turley is one of the attendants that protested because she says they're not seeing any reward for the sacrifices they made.
"I fell like we're being betrayed," Turley said. "Because we've given up so much to keep this company from going into bankruptcy. We done that – and some of the other airlines have rewarded their employees and American Airlines has not."
The flight attendants claim only elite executives at American Airlines will reap the rewards. The airline has not confirmed those accusations.
