This is Leslie Mayo, National Communications Coordinator, with the APFA Hotline for Wednesday, January 23, 2008.
As the APFA Ballot Committee announced, the National Officer ballot count took place last Thursday. Since no candidate received 50% plus 1 of the valid votes cast, there will be a run-off election between the two candidates receiving the most votes for each position. Ballots will be sent out this coming weekend and are due in the designated PO Box no later than February 26, 2008.
For the first time in APFA’s history, the Union has policy in place that allows for a live debate among the candidates for APFA President in the event of a run-off as is the case following the ballot count last week. We will notify the membership of the details of the debate as soon as they are finalized. APFA plans to make the entire debate available via a link from our Web site for FAs to view online.
By now, each member should have received a letter from the APFA Negotiating Team addressing the APFA members contract survey online. This is your chance to make your opinions known to APFA prior to Section 6 proposals that will come directly from membership feedback. In this letter, you should have also received a “pin jacket” to wear behind your union pin once you have completed the survey. If you did not receive the blue pin jacket with your letter, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and one will be sent to you. You must be dues current in order to fill out the survey. If you are having problems logging into the web site after clicking on the “help” links, please send an email to email@example.com with your name and employee number for assistance.
We have received several emails from members describing this survey as incredibly thorough. This is your opportunity to weigh in on APFA’s openers in the spring. Members have until February 6, 2008, to complete this survey, it will take about one hour and is well worth the time.
If you experience any access problems once you have begun filling out the survey, you can return to the site later and your survey should be saved where you left off. UNT has told us that these issues are likely resolved.
The survey is being conducted by the University of North Texas (UNT) and individual results are completely confidential. Results will be compiled by UNT and presented to the team for evaluation by the UNT’s Research Survey Center. If you are not a member in good standing, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to become dues current and take the time to make your voice heard.

Several FAs have contacted APFA asking questions about their $800 (or less) checks management issued to all employees last week. Since APFA had no part in management’s poor attempt at placating its employees while they rub their hands together in anticipation of their big bonus checks in April, we were not provided with details of these tips from management. Please visit JetNet and review the Q&As on your Tip from management or contact your FSM for more information.
All members in good standing are welcome to attend the APFA Annual Board of Directors Convention beginning February 13, 2008. Contact email@example.com for information on purchasing tickets to the banquet.
Please remember we still have 1,200 Flight Attendants awaiting recall.
Thank you for calling the APFA Hotline.
