InfoReps,
FROM THE CONTRACT DEPARTMENT
The deadline for three options which will help eliminate a projected overage of Flight Attendants is 12:00 noon, Central Time on Monday, January 26, 2009. The options being offered consist of a Voluntary Travel Separation Program, Overage Leaves and Partnership Flying.
Highlights of each of these options are as follows:
VOLUNTARY TRAVEL SEPARATION PROGRAM: With this option you would be resigning from American on a permanent basis in exchange for a set period of unlimited D2 travel based on your years of Company Seniority. If you have more than five (5) years but less than ten (10) years of Company Seniority as of March 1, 2009, you would be entitled to five (5) years of unlimited D2 travel. If you had more than ten (10) years of Company Seniority then you would be entitled to ten (10) years of unlimited D2 travel. Since this is a resignation, you should thoroughly review the Q&A posted on both the APFA and Flight Service website as well as details of the program on Jetnet prior to electing this option. This is being offered in response to a number of calls from Flight Attendants who are considering resigning from AA but do not meet the eligibility criteria for Retirement or Article 30. Keep in mind while there are no medical benefits associated with this separation, your vested pension is still yours at a future date based on your age and Years of Credited Service in the Pension Plan. Separations would be effective March 2, 2009 or at the conclusion of a carry-over trip from February, unless large numbers of Flight Attendants elect this option in which the company may have to stagger the separation dates based on operational need.
OVERAGE LEAVES OF ABSENCE (OLOA): Leaves of Absence, which include Occupational, or Bidding, Seniority and Travel for the duration of the leaves are being proffered effective with the contractual month of March 2009. Leaves are being offered in two Key Blocks. The first Key Block is for the 9 month period March through November 2009. The second Key Block is for the 3 month period March through May 2009 AND the 3 month period September through November 2009. Flight Attendants awarded the second option will return to active status during the months of June, July and August. Auxiliary Blocks will be awarded in the 3 month increments March-April-May; June-July-August and September-October-November. Auxiliary Blocks will only be awarded after all Key Blocks have been awarded and there is still a projected overage. Bids for Auxiliary Blocks will be paired to ensure they equal the Key Block period of times. There will be additional awards for the Auxiliary period of March-April-May prior to the awarding of Partnership Flying mentioned below. Please review the Overage Leave Q&A as well as the Pay, Benefits and Policies Packet for Overage Leave available on either the APFA or Flight Service website.
Please note if you recently held a Personal Leave of Absence (PLOA) via the PLOA proffer effective January 31, 2009, any portion of that leave which overlaps the upcoming OLOA which could be held based on your seniority will be converted to OLOA. This conversion will take place regardless of whether or not you submit an OLOA ballot. No PLOAs will be revoked based on the awarding of OLOAs.
PARTNERSHIP FLYING: Partnership Flying will be awarded if there is still an overage following the awarding of Overage Leaves. If awarded, the Partnership’s would be effective for the months of March, April and May. If you are interested in Partnership Flying but do not have someone to pair with, please use the Partnership Finder located on the APFA website. Partnership Flying is basically a job share in which two Flight Attendants bid, hold and fly one line. If you liked Part-time in the past, you may want to consider this option. The rules of Partnership are unique and you should review the Partnership Flying Information Packet and Partnership Q&A document located on the APFA and Flight Service websites.
Keep in mind the deadline for each of these options is this coming Monday, January 26, 2009 at 12:00 noon, Central Time.
The election form for the Voluntary Travel Separation Program can be found on Jetnet via the Flight Service website. The ballots for Overage Leave and Partnership Flying can be found on the Flight Service website.
REMINDER: Flight Attendants accepting any Leave of Absence remains obligated to pay Union Dues. Should you be awarded a Leave Of Absence, please contact APFA Headquarters at (800)-395-2732 to make arrangements.
