NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

The team met with the company this week in Dallas for scheduled talks outside of mediation.

20/20 A CLEAR VISION

The base visits on March 20 went extremely well. The Negotiators were able to bring Flight Attendants up to speed on Negotiations and answer questions. The LHR visit proved to be even more successful than anticipated. Negotiators, Mario St. Michel (JFK) and Ray Baylis (IOR) were able to speak with well over 100 Flight Attendants in London.

The Negotiators will be in Base Operations around the system again on Monday, April 20 and in LHR on April 21-22. The 20/20 schedule is posted on the www.apfa.org website as well as attached to this e-mail.

PHONE TREE

We began e-mailing the Phone Tree lists to InfoReps last week. We will be sending them gradually over the next week. All lists will be e-mailed by Friday, April 3. And we ask that all calls be completed by May 1, 2009. There are some InfoReps that will not be assigned numbers this round and may be contacted later in the month to assist in any overflow calls.

DID YOU KNOW?

In the CBA of 1957, Article 9-Seniority General, paragraph F, stated that a qualified Spanish speaking Stewardess, based at DAL, who flew and completed a flight between DAL/MEX would be paid $1.25 per flight in addition to her regular compensation.

In 1960, the same language was expanded to include flights between DAL/MEX and MDW/MEX. Through the years, the compensation per flight increased and the "Spanish" language designator was removed to include any foreign language speaker.

In 1979 Article 11-Language became its own article but a speaker was still only paid $2.50 per flight. It wasn’t until 1987 that speakers began being paid per hour. Currently, language pay is $1.25 per hour and is covered in Article 3-Compensation.
