NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE

Mediation resumed this past week in Dallas. While progress was slow, the company did present a counter proposal on Article 7 – Hours of Service and Article 8 – Minimum Pay and Credit.

The company also presented initial proposals on Article 1 – Recognition and Merger/Acquisition Protection and Article 16 – Reduction in Force. APFA presented the company with proposals on Article 26 ñ Sick Leave and Article 27 ñ Injury On Duty.

The Scheduling Subcommittees met on Wednesday, and some progress was made on Article 10 – Reserve. Additionally, the subcommittees continued discussions on Article 9 – Scheduling.
Next week, your APFA Team will be working internally to prepare proposals on the remaining articles. These proposals will be presented when the team next meets for mediated talks on April 28, in Miami.

20/20 A CLEAR VISION

On Monday, April 20, members of your APFA Negotiating Team will again visit base operations areas around the system to meet with members, answer their questions, provide updates and dispel rumors. Iíve attached the calendar of visits to this Hotline. The calendar is also available on the www.apfa.org website home page. Following the success of a similar visit last month, negotiators Ray Baylis (IOR) and Steven Ellis (JFK) will meet with Flight Attendants arriving, departing and laying over at the downtown London hotel on Tuesday evening , April 2, 1700-2100 and Wednesday morning, April 22, 0600-1100.

PHONE TREE UPDATE

All PhoneTree list have now been sent via e-mail. We have had several returned due to bad e-mail address. Those InfoReps will be called over the next few days to verify their e-mail address. Please complete and input the data collected by May 1, 2009. There were some reports that the link in the original e-mail does not connect to the online form. Should you experience difficulty, there is a link in the InfoRep section of the www.apfa.org website.

When creating the Phone Tree Lists, we matched members within an InfoRepís area code. Some cities had a large number of InfoReps and as a result, there were not enough members to go around to all InfoReps in that area. Therefore, there are some InfoReps that will not have a Phone Tree Lists assigned to them this round.

DID YOU KNOW?

From the 1947 CBA, until the CBA of 1953, layover rest was addressed in Hours of Service, where it remains today. It simply stated that "The rest periods between flights, or between legs of the same flight, shall conform to that afforded other flight crew members" In the 1951 and 1953 CBAs, there was additional language stating…"that when a stewardess has flown over eight (8) hours, the minimum rest period at the layover station shall be fifteen (15) hours". Beginning in 1955, as the years progressed, more duty day and layover protections were added.
