Q: Can you explain how the voluntary duty day waiver works? -LAA / LUS
A: At the Flight Attendant’s option and when offered by crew tracking/crew scheduling, the Duty-Day Operational max can be extended. Once the duty day maximum is waived it cannot be “unwaived.” The same holds true for the pay, once the crew has agreed to extend their duty day max the entire duty day will be paid the additional one minute for every 2 minutes on duty over the sequence pay for the entire duty period whether the maximum is exceeded or not.
Looking at the 3-day LAA sequence below, day 3 experienced a “creeping” delay. Due to “e” time for the scheduled and rescheduled day the crew had 5.04 minutes of pay and credit added to their scheduled flight time of 3.22 for a total of 8.26 pay for the day. Since the crew waived their duty day max to work back to base, an additional 8.26 was paid but not credited for the entire duty day of 16.53 (16.53 divided by 2 equals 8.26). Full pay for the 3-day sequence was 29.23 including the pay for the voluntary waiver.
