Over the past several months, the daunting task of launching the Flight Attendant Communications Team (FACT) has been expertly handled by the elected domestic negotiator Michael Truan. Thanks to Michael’s leadership, the FACT now has over 400 members and this energetic group has helped keep the membership up to speed throughout the fast-paced merger. APFA is now preparing to enter negotiations to achieve a new contract that reflects the size and competitiveness of the new American. As this work quickly ramps up, Michael must give his job on the negotiating committee – the job his fellow Flight Attendants elected him to do – 100 percent of his focus and attention. APFA’s Communications Department would like to take this opportunity to thank Michael for his hard work and tremendous sacrifice.

FACT: AFA Local Executive Council (LEC) Presidents have elected their negotiating team who will join APFA’s current negotiating team for joint contract negotiations.  Our teams are expected to begin working together soon.  Our combined negotiating team will be compromised of 6 negotiators from each union plus  APFA President, Laura Glading and US Airways MEC President, Roger Holmin.  The negotiators for a joint collective bargaining agreement are:

         US Airways MEC                                                APFA
MEC President    Roger Holmin.                      President          Laura Glading
JNC Member      Vicki Balistreri.                     International     Lenny Aurigemma
JNC Member      Alin Boswell.                        International     Randy Trautman
JNC Member      Paul Hartshorn Jr.                 International     Neil Fernandez
JNC Member      David Hone.                        Domestic           Julie Hedrick
JNC Member      Rick Knuth.                          Domestic           Margaret Barnes
JNC Member      George Price.                      Domestic           Michael Truan

FACT: APA has petitioned the National Mediation Board (NMB) for a determination that post-merger American Airlines and US Airways are a single carrier for purposes of union representation.  This is a necessary step before APA can become the representative of the combined pilot work group at the new American Airlines.

FACT: Effective January 31 Flight Attendants will see the return of Option 1, Option 2, and the 100 hour cap for MU flying.  Currently when Flight Attendants request a trip from Crew Schedule on MU, as long as they are under 100 hours SPROJ, they can plot a trip that takes them over 100 hours SPROJ. Beginning with the next contractual month, FAs will only be able to plot up to 100 hours maximum SPROJ on MU but not exceed 100 hours.  Option 1 will have an SPROJ maximum of 95 hours while option 2 allows FAs to exceed 95 hours SPROJ.  As a reminder, SPROJ does not include carry-over time or OEs.
