On the thirteenth anniversary of 9/11, there isn’t a single airline employee who doesn’t remember where they were and what they were doing on September 11, 2001. That Tuesday morning is forever etched in our minds. And the 33 crewmembers we lost will live forever in our hearts.

Thank you to all of the FACT Reps and Mobilizers who were able to participate on Wednesday’s conference call with APFA President Laura Glading and the Joint Negotiating Committee. Some of the questions and answers from the call are posted below.

FACT: As of September 11th, there are approximately 8 days and 7 face-to-face meetings remaining in the 150 days of negotiating as agreed to in the Negotiations Protocol Agreement (NPA). Further information on negotiations can be found at www.www.apfa.org/negotiations.

Dates for the remaining face-to-face negotiations scheduled for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area are:
    • September 11 – 12, 2014
    • September 15 – 19, 2014

FACT: AFA-CWA’s grievance over the FCFS pass policy on American Airlines was formally denied by arbitrator Joshua Javits.  The arbitrator ruled that the the Company was not mandated to use seniority for determining travel benefits for Flight Attendants.  Non-Rev travel on LUS and LAA will be fully integrated on September 15th. All current employees will travel as D2 on LAA and SD2E on LUS and will be accommodated in first-come first-served order. D1s will not be available for LAA to use on LUS until we have a combined Passenger Service Systems (PSS) sometime in 2015. There will not be any changes to the interim jumpseat agreement between LUS and LAA. To read the full interim jumpseat agreement please click here.

FACT or fiction
Q: Will there be any changes to Reserve?
A: Yes, Reserve will be very different under the Preferential Bidding System (PBS).  The Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) has been working on a hybrid Reserve system combining the LAA and LUS Reserve systems while making them work for both legacy groups under PBS.

Q: Is Pay Protection a high priority for negotiations?
A: Pay Protection is important to both LAA and LUS Flight Attendants as well as to every single member of the JNC. The Team has been working towards securing the maximum amount of pay with the least amount of obligation for Flight Attendants.

Q: Is the JNC negotiating for profit sharing?
A:  Profit Sharing is important to both Flight Attendants and the JNC.  The team continues to negotiate for Profit Sharing over and above any compensation.

Q:  Will Flight Attendants be voting on bullet points/highlights or will we have full language?
A:  The full contractual language will be available as will highlights and bullet points.

Q:  Under PBS, LAA Flight Attendants will be losing vacation time and pay. Is anything being done to negotiate more days or pay for each vacation day?
A: LAA vacation continues to be on a “trips-missed basis” until PBS is implemented in approximately 12-18 months. The JNC is negotiating for more days as well as higher pay for each vacation day.

As we approach the final week of the 150 days of negotiations, it is imperative that all Flight Attendants at the new American are educated on the process every step of the way.
