Purser Flex Test
In preparation for the implementation of the JCBA Purser/Lead provisions that went into effect on May 2, the company gave APFA the required 30 days’ notice of its intent to eliminate the Purser Flex Test. As a result, APFA and AA worked together to establish parameters for the transition of the LAA Purser program to the JCBA provisions in Section 14.L.

Until the section is implemented:

  • Pursers will not need to accumulate a minimum number of paid Purser hours per year.
  • There will not be a bidding requirement for purser selections.
  • Pursers must attend annual refresher training to maintain the Purser qualification.
  • Future Purser openings will be proffered and awarded based on system seniority. According to the JCBA, a minimum of 80 Pursers will be trained annually. Additional Purser positions may be offered if there is a base-specific need or one specifically for Reserves.

Additionally, two flexibilities will remain from the Purser Flexibility Test:

  • The most senior Purser on a sequence who is not in the Purser position and has indicated a desire to be awarded the Purser position with a “V” by 0800 the day before the trip will continue to be moved prior to processing Make-up. (Exceptions to straight seniority may apply when a speaker is required in the Purser position.)
  • Crew Schedule will continue to be able to override the lights in TTOT to permit legal TTOTs for Purser sequences that do not negatively impact daily manning.

This means that the Purser Pick Up provision will no longer be an option for Purser sequences originating on May 16th or later. When the Purser Flex Test was created, the intent was to provide an additional benefit for Pursers who remained in the program and endured the inadequate pay, bid denials resulting from resignations from the program and limited ability to trade with open time. Due to the greatly reduced number of sequences requiring the Purser qualification and the significantly increased pay, the need to permit Pursers access to open Purser sequences regardless of monthly maximum is no longer necessary. Allowing these trips to be awarded within the 100 hour Make-up Maximum should permit more Pursers the opportunity to pick up these trips and enjoy the benefits of the qualification.

Light Duty
APFA has been notified by AA that it will no longer provide light duty accommodations. We do not agree with this change and will continue to address this with the company. In the meantime, it is our recommendation that if you are able to perform light duty that you should apply for unemployment. Each state has different laws governing eligibility for unemployment, we recommend you contact your state unemployment office or visit your state unemployment website.

Understanding Your Pay Stub
Reading and understanding your paycheck can sometimes be a major headache. Although the total amount may seem correct at first glance, it’s important to review each paycheck carefully for possible errors. When pay discrepancies occur, there are contractual protections in place for Flight Attendants to be made financially whole in an expedited manner.

The company has advised APFA of an issue applying 757 Aft Galley Position Premium Pay applied. Flight Attendants should review their pay stubs covering the April 2015 bid month (May 15th paycheck) and contact Pay Claims with any discrepancies at (800) 327-0117; prompts 2, 4. If additional assistance is needed, Flight Attendants should contact the APFA LUS Contract and Scheduling desk at (817) 540-0108 ext. 8169. The company anticipates the programming issue will be resolved this month.

Flight Attendant Premium Pay (FAPP) App
I.T. is in the final phase of testing the new FAPP (Flight Attendant Premium Pay) application and it is expected to be “live” on May 21.  You’ll be able to use the FAPP App to track your Purser, Lead, Aft, and Galley premium pay. It will capture these premiums retroactive to May 2 – the first day of the May bid month –  and will provide leg-by-leg detail of applicable premiums for which you are eligible. Detailed instructions on how to access the FAPP App (via the Flight Service website) will be available once it is launched on May 21.

FACT or Fiction?

LAA
Q: I called in sick for an OE trip and have sick time in my bank. The hours aren’t showing as paid on my HI1. When is this supposed to be adjusted? Do I need to contact pay comp or is the adjustment supposed to be automatic?
A: This is manually processed by pay comp but it should not require any action by the Flight Attendant. If you don’t see it reflected on your HI1 after a few days then please HISEND pay comp to have it adjusted.

Q: I want to get qualified on 777-300 and Airbus. Should I wait for a trigger month? Is there any difference in pay between a trigger and a non-trigger month?
A: Training pay is $75/day for classroom and up to $75/day for online. There is no difference in training pay whether it’s a trigger or a proffer, so it just depends on what your seniority will hold. Proffer results are listed in Crew Resources on FS page, and the “Successful Trigger List” is in Training on FS page.

Q: When attending CQ on a Reserve month, are we no longer given a certain number of hours that go toward our Reserve hours?
A: That’s correct, however, your reserve guarantee is protected and you will receive training pay of $225 for CQ on top of your guarantee.
