Bid Leaves and Travel Privileges

Beginning with the August bid month, if you take a bid leave you will receive travel privileges as though you were “active.” Active travel privileges include D1s and other airline (OAL) travel – options previously not available to Flight Attendants taking bid leaves greater than 16 days. This is a JCBA-related improvement and brings us another step closer to aligning with the policies for the new “Voluntary Leaves of Absence” (VLOA) – (Section 25.B) coming in January, 2016.

Bid leaves will not be offered after the December, 2015 contractual month and will be replaced with VLOA’s beginning next year.

Prefunding Arbitration

APFA and the company concluded the Prefunding Arbitration on June 18th in Washington D.C. APFA’s attorney Carmen Parcelli presented a very strong case before Arbitrator Richard Bloch and was assisted by Regional Representatives Liz Geiss and Debbie Dent. The parties are in the process of submitting final legal briefs to the arbitrator and we expect a decision in the fall. APFA would like to thank the many past and present APFA representatives who testified on behalf of the membership in the arbitration.

JCBA Pay Comp Timeline

The APFA Contract Department has created a very helpful chart for LAA Flight Attendants who are wondering when and where their pay will appear on their HI1/HSS or FAPP and whether it is generated manually or automatically by the company. Click here to review the chart.

DFW Chinese Visa Update

DFW Flight Service, in cooperation with DFW APFA, has established a new process for DFW-based flight attendants to obtain or renew your Chinese visa. Even better – it’s at a minimal out-of-pocket expense to you, since the majority of the cost will be direct billed to Flight Service. You’ll no longer have to travel to Houston as AA has enlisted the services of a courier to handle the entire process. Click here to read more about the new procedures.

Q: August is my recurrent month. If I request and am awarded a bid leave does that mean I have to take CQ during the non-bid weeks? If I am forced to go into my grace month in September what happens if I don’t get into a class?

A: You can take CQ during a bid leave and it does not affect the training pay. You will be scheduled for a CQ class automatically in your grace month if you do not attend during your base month. There are no contractual exceptions to attending in your base month.

Q: Are agents still required to assist us in closing the forward entry door?

A: Yes. In our inflight manual, Departure/Taxi page 1.1: “FA responsible for boarding door releases gust lock and initiates door closure by releasing gust lock. Gate agent will assist with guiding the door inward.”

Q: Is there an APFA app for androids?

A: The current APFA Flyer app is only for IOS devices. An app for LUS and LAA combined is being developed and it will be built for both IOS and Android platforms. It should be ready in the fall.

Q: I have been told that I cannot trade a trip for trip on the same days in ISAP and pass it on to Daily. I have had a request to trade for a specific trip. I did pass to Daily and now that trip is in open time for tomorrow. Scheduling is telling me that Daily cannot do it on the same days. They could have if it was to drop a 3-day today for a 3 day tomorrow but not on the same days?

A: Per Redbook Section 10.E.3.n.iv: “Wants Better” – If, after the ISAP award, a Lineholder has a pairing in her/ his line that originates on the first day of the ISAP bid processing date range, the Lineholder will not be added to the Unsuccessful Bidders List for any pairings that originate the same day.
