Meeting with the Consultant

Last week the AFPA JIRC/JSIC, and the Company met with Roy Everett, the consultant who was jointly hired because of his years of scheduling expertise to advise both the Union and the Company in possible areas of scheduling that would benefit from improvements. This was his first set of recommendations and predominantly revolved around improving the pairing construction, which was already noticeable for the September and October months with a huge addition of 1 and 2 day pairings.

He is continuing to look at other aspects of the operation to find areas that can be improved to create a better working life for Flight Attendants.

Useful Reserve Tips
Written by Courtney Marquese Watts – PHL FA

Courtney took time to write up a comprehensive list of Reserve tips that is very helpful and very easy to understand so we felt it was perfect to share with everyone.

  • There is no daily click for OPR. Just an OPR click.
  • As a RSV, Red Flag pairings only pay 50 percent over your guarantee on the days you are on a MD/GD. If you are only Off for one day and the red flag pairing is three days, you will only be paid over your guarantee for half the flight time of the day that operates on your Off day.
  • Crewportal shuts down every night for roughly thirty minutes while Catcrew refreshes and does a legality check. If it’s the middle of the night and you get a crew portal error, check Catcrew. If Catcrew is down, so is Crewportal.
  • If your last leg of a pairing is a DH, you can be released. Just call systems and tell them you’re not taking the DH. They’re usually super nice about it because you’re freeing up a seat. However, once you are released from your DH, it’s your responsibility to get to base in time for your next RAP or pairing assignment.
  • You can be assigned any pairing that has a check in time within two hours after your RAP ends.
  • RAP C to A is still legal.
  • No, you do not have to answer your phone outside of your RAP or the day before you go on call, but it’s still your pairing. Scheduling will call when your RAP begins to assign you the same pairing they tried to give you beforehand. It’s up to you if you want to acknowledge them at 8pm or 2am but either way, it’s your pairing.
  • When you’re on a MD/GD and make yourself available, you are literally the last person called. Even if it’s a Red Flag day.
  • You can be aggressive all month, but after your first 40 hours of flying (regardless if it was assigned from an aggressive bid or a non-aggressive bid) any Aggressive flying hours will push up your “Call out time”. For example: you have flown 50 hrs in the month, your call out time is 85:01 and you see a pairing worth 10:00 you would really like to fly so you call scheduling and make yourself Aggressive. You are awarded the pairing and your call out time (MAX hrs in Catcrew) now becomes 95:01.
  • Any pairing that the duty day starts after 12:00am local station time requires that you get the rest of the day off i.e. Redeyes. However, ODANs do not count because you are On Duty All Night. Once you’re rest is over, you are on a modified RAP C.
  • Picking up a pairing after 8pm home base time on the ETB? You won’t know if you’re approved or denied until 6am.
  • There are no clicks for any flying other than a daily call that is not an aggressive choice or OPR.

On Premise Reserve Shifts – Effective August 1, 2015:

Searching with an “On Date” Property or Pairing ID

Did you know that Pairing ID and any PBS property with the words “On Date” cannot be filtered any further down in a pairing search?

When searching using a specific Pairing ID, adding any additional search criteria will bring in the specific pairing PLUS all pairings that is defined by the additional search criteria.

For example, conduct a search using Pairing ID. Notice, only 1 pairing is found in the search:

Now, if additional search criteria, Prefer Pairing Length-1, is included in the search, the specific pairing remains in the pairing pool but now there are an additional 170 pairings included in the pairing pool as well.

When searching using any property with the words “on Date”, additional search criteria will bring in the pairings that are defined by the “on Date”, plus any pairings that are defined by the additional search criteria.

Conduct a search using an “on date” property like, Prefer Pairing Length on Date- Length 2 on Monday, September 2. Notice there are 17 2-day pairings that originate on Sept. 2nd.

When Layover at City-SFO is added to the search, the pairing pool now includes 130 additional pairings with a layover in SFO plus the 17 2-day pairings that originate on Sept. 2nd.
