Voluntary Duty Day Waiver – LAA
The JCBA provides Flight Attendants the ability to voluntarily waive their contractual operational maximum duty day in order to be paid a premium (Section 10.O and Section 14.D). The waivers do not apply to duty periods containing Long Range flying with a 16-hour maximum scheduled duty day and an 18-hour operational duty maximum.
The new FAR rules for Pilots create a dynamic in which Flight Attendants become illegal to continue a sequence prior to the Pilots. As a result, APFA and AA have agreed effective immediately to expand the voluntary waiver to Long Range flying and permit Flight Attendants to volunteer to continue on duty up to a maximum reschedule duty day of 19 hours (the point at which the pilot crew must choose whether to extend their duty day). This is completely voluntary and the flight can operate with FAR minimum crew if some crewmembers choose not to remain on duty.
As a reminder, never assume the Voluntary Waiver will be paid for exceeding the maximum operational duty day. Crew Schedule or Crew Tracking must offer and the Flight Attendants must accept the offer to waive their duty day up to the 19 hour maximum. Only then will the sequence be modified to reflect the VE code. If the crew believes Crew Schedule/Tracking offered and the crew volunteered, but the sequence does not show the VE, call Crew Schedule/Tracking upon arrival if possible. VE pay will be added to the HI1 as GUAR PREM and will not be reflected until closeout for the month, around the 9th of the following month.
The letter of agreement can be found here.
Language Drop Proffer – LAA
As a reminder, the 2015 Language Drop Proffer is currently open. The ballot is located on the Crew Resources page of the Flight Service website. The proffer will close at 1700 Central Time on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.
Highlighted JCBA Now Available – LAA
A highlighted copy of the 2014 JCBA is now available for Legacy American Flight Attendants at APFA.org by clicking here.
We have highlighted the sections that have already been implemented. This should make it easier for you to distinguish between the progress we’ve already made vs. what’s to come. If an area is not highlighted, you should refer to the 2001 Contract (CBA) as modified in 2003 via the Restructuring Participation Agreement (RPA) and the 2012 Conditional Labor Agreement (CLA).
