A Final Farewell to US Airways
On this historic day, October 16, 2015, US Airways will take her final bow, but she will not leave the stage without remembering the love, sweat and tears that built, persevered, and triumphed above all others to create a future and legacy unmatched in our industry.
Our airline started in 1939 as All American Aviation serving Western Pennsylvania and the Ohio Valley with airmail. Today US Airways along with its merger partner American Airlines is poised to become the largest airline in the world.
Through multiple airline mergers and difficult times US Airways and its employees held our heads high, worked hard and with dignity and grace kept the flag flying. We have endured a great deal throughout our careers. We have watched CEOs and management teams both good and bad come and go and yet we, the employees, rose above it all to stand before the aviation industry as the definition of the old adage “you can’t keep a good girl down.”
As the sun sets on this day, a day of memories of whom we were, memories of who we are, and the excitement for whom we will become, an excerpt from a poem by Dylan Thomas comes to mind:
Tears will flow, laughter will come and tomorrow we will look to the eastern shores as the sun rises bringing a new dawn and our history will begin anew.
Farewell US Airways.
