VEBA Prefunding Update – LAA

The Prefunding Arbitration was held April 28-29, 2015, and continued June 17-18, 2015. APFA Attorney Carmen Parcelli presented a very strong case. Transcripts were submitted within 30 days, followed by legal briefs which were submitted to Arbitrator Bloch within 45 days. We have been awaiting Arbitrator Bloch’s decision since October of 2015. In November, he called for an Executive Session of the Arbitration Board scheduled for Tuesday, December 15, 2015. However, the Arbitrator cancelled the meeting due to his illness. The Prefunding Executive Session has been rescheduled with Arbitrator Bloch on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 10:30am. Following the Executive session, he will provide his decision to the Arbitration Board, and shortly thereafter, the decision will be announced to the membership. Voluntary Leave of Absence Ballot – LAA

The ballot for February Voluntary Leave of Absences (VLOAs) is now available on the Crew Resources page of the Flight Service website. An HI6 message will go out each month indicating when the ballot is available. The deadline to submit a ballot for February VLOAs is Friday, January 15 at 0900 Central Time.

2015 Sick Accrual – LAA

As in years past, 2015 sick hours for LAA Flight Attendants will not be finalized until Pay Comp has closed out December 2015 schedules and we have had a chance to review the preliminary information in our HISK/L. The preliminary information was available in the HISK/L on January 11. If there is a discrepancy with the accrual, contact the Flight Attendant Service Center (FASC) prior to 1800 Central Standard Time on Friday, January 15, 2016.

FASC contact info: Call (800) VIP-CREW, log in, choose option #, then 6 and follow the prompts for the Admin Desk. Hours: Monday – Friday from 0700 to 1800 Central Standard Time. Final SK hours for 2015 will be added to sick banks on January 18th. If you’ve had an unpaid sick absence since January 1, 2016, and are still on payroll, the newly accrued sick hours will be applied to the absence.

2016 Sick Accrual – LAA

There are a few changes for LAA Flight Attendants related to sick accrual, which began on January 1st. First, the amount of hours eligible for accrual each month increase to 3.5 hours per month. Second, the hours will be earned at the end of each month rather than at the conclusion of the calendar year. Lastly, paid sick status is now included as being eligible for sick hour accrual.

401(k) Company Contribution Error on ePays – LAA

January 15, 2016 paychecks for LAA Flight Attendants recently posted to ePays. For those LAA Flight Attendants who were added to the Flight Attendant seniority list after April 12, 2012, the three percent Company contribution may not be displaying. No other Flight Attendants were impacted. Although the contribution isn’t displayed on the paycheck itself, the calculation was completed correctly and it will post in your American Airlines 401(k) Plan account on Friday, January 15, 2016, as scheduled. To confirm your contribution posting you can log on to your account at www.netbenefits.com/aa on Saturday, January 16, 2016.

VLOA Openings – March 2016 – LUS

The Company is projecting an opportunity to award Voluntary Leaves of Absence (VLOA) for the month of March 2016. These VLOAs may be available for the February bid month (effective March 2, 2016) in the following domiciles:  CLT — DCA — PHL — PHX

  • Lineholders are responsible for lead in trips for the award month.
  • Picking up trips via ETB is not permissible while on this leave.
  • Required training scheduled for the month must be attended and will be compensated accordingly.
  • Accruals for both sick and vacation will continue during the period of the leave.
  • Any scheduled vacation will be paid.
  • Benefits will remain active for the duration of the leave.

All VLOA requests for March 2016 must be submitted electronically via the VLOA Request Form on WINGS prior to the deadline of 12:00 Noon (EST) and 10:00 (MST), Wednesday, January 20, 2016. Awards will be posted no later than Thursday, January 21, 2016.

Position Selection Clarification – LUS

Position Selection continues to be governed by the language in the “Red Book” in Section 10, pages 10-51 through 10-53. A Flight Attendant who has been awarded her/his position through her/his PBS award is entitled to keep that position and cannot be displaced by a more senior Flight Attendant.

Flight Attendants on CLT, DCA, or PHL base pairings who are awarded a position outside of PBS in ISAP, ISAP/AIL, ETB, Reserve Assignment or swaps are considered “placeholders” on the Pairing. Actual Position Selection will be determined by seniority (or mutual consent) during the briefing prior to the origination of the Pairing per the contract.

As an exception to the above, Flight Attendants on PHX base pairings may not be displaced from her/his awarded or assigned position on her/his pairing regardless of how she/he acquired the position (e.g. PBS, ISAP, ISAP/AIL Reserve Assignment or swaps). This language can be found in the “Red Book in Section 10, page 10-53.

The “Red Book” language will continue until Flight Attendant Operational Integration (FOI) with LAA Flight Attendants and implementation of the Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA).

Pay Discrepancies – LUS

The following Contractual provisions are in place for LUS Flight Attendants in the event a pay shortage should occur:

  1. When there is a shortage equivalent to two (2) hours of pay or less in a Flight Attendant’s paycheck, such amount shall be added to his/her next check once the matter is resolved.
  2. When there is a shortage equivalent to more than two (2) hours of pay but not exceeding five (5) hours of pay, such amount shall be issued through a special check, if requested, and mailed to the Flight Attendant by U.S. Mail, within five (5) days following resolution of the matter. Upon request, the Flight Attendant may make arrangements to pick up a payroll card at a domicile or a check at the Corporate payroll office.
  3. When there is a shortage exceeding five (5) hours of pay in a Flight Attendant’s paycheck, and once such matter has been resolved, a special check or pay card will be issued if requested, and forwarded to the Flight Attendant by overnight mail, except where the shortage is due to the Flight Attendant’s negligence or mistake. Upon request, the Flight Attendant may make arrangements to pick up a payroll card at a domicile or a check at the Corporate payroll office.
