Dear Philadelphia Flight Attendants:
This past week, APFA Leadership met in Dallas Fort-Worth for the annual Fall Board of Directors meeting. At this meeting, APFA National President Laura Glading tendered her resignation effective October 9, 2015. As per the APFA Constitution, the National Vice President moved up to fill the remainder of the term, and the Board was then charged with appointing a National Vice President to fill that vacancy.
I am pleased to announce the APFA Board of Directors unanimously appointed CLT based flight attendant Rick Knuth to serve as the National Vice President. Rick brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this position, as an attorney specializing in Labor Relations, as well as a member of the Joint Negotiating Committee, and a 23- year Flight Attendant.
We are moving forward to unite this membership. I am going to ask that everyone check their emotions at the door before posting something on social media that could hurt someone or yourself. Everyone has an opinion and is entitled to their opinion. If you choose to debate these issues, I recommend doing so respectfully. It is not worth losing friendships. Please be assured that the Company monitors social media, and they have access to it all, private pages included.
In case anyone does not know, I do not participate on all of the social media pages, nor will I engage in any type of political grandstanding. My office is extremely busy dealing with the day-to-day issues that are affecting our Flight Attendants quality of life: Scheduling issues, legalities, travel, jump seat, pay claims, dependability issues, supervisory meetings, FMLA problems, safety related events, the reduction in flying time, and many other quality of life related issues. If you want my attention, Facebook is not going to be the place to find it. I am always available to our Flight Attendants via phone and email if you want to discuss a particular subject you feel passionate about. I am in PHL at least four days a week, and I will be happy to meet with you to discuss your concerns.
PBS Bidding Opens Today
As a result of airport closures over Thanksgiving in Tel Aviv and Madrid, the Company has constructed three (3) transatlantic pairings that will be five (5) days in duration. Please consult with a PBS trainer on how to bid them or how NOT to bid them.
You will also notice the Reserve numbers have climbed for November. Keep in mind this is driven by the seasonal pull down of the transatlantic flying. I believe this is still a higher number than necessary under PBS bidding and I have requested the Company take a second look at this.
Vacation Bidding Reminder
Round 1 Vacation Bidding CLOSES Thursday, October 15th, 2015 at 2100 PHX time.

PHL Base President
