FACT Check – LAA/LUS
Q: Will LAA new hires in 2016 classes go on one year of straight Reserve?
A: No. Straight Reserve for LAA will not be implemented until PBS. When PBS begins for LAA in 2017, a Flight Attendant who has not completed 12 months with the company will finish out the remainder of those 12 months on straight Reserve.
Q: Is there discussion with the Company to change the reserve system to be like Delta’s where everyone serves a few days of Reserve a month?
A: No. Reserve will be implemented according to JCBA Section 12 – Reserve Duty.
Q: When will LAA Flight Attendants hired in 2013 go to 1 on 3 off rotation for Reserve?
A: Here is an example for class 13-01. Class 13-01 began their 3 year period of 1-month on/1-month off rotation in May of 2013. They would be 1-month on/1-month off through April of 2016.
- If they serve Reserve in April of 2016, they would then have 3 months off before they were subject to Reserve.
- If they are off Reserve in April of 2016, they would serve in May (if seniority warrants) and then have 3 months off.
Vacation Bidding – LAA
Vacation Bidding for the 2016/2017 fiscal year is now open. This is for the vacation we accrued in 2015. Since 2015 accruals were based on the CLA for the months of January through April and the JCBA for the months of May through December, the chart below shows the amount of vacation days eligible for accrual based on your Vacation seniority date. Your Vacation seniority date can be found at the bottom of the HI8 and appears as VAC Date. This date was added to our HI8 last year as seniority for vacation accrual purposes now has different provisions for accrual when on various types of unpaid leaves under the JCBA. Please see the chart in Section 25.N. to see how unpaid leaves of absence may affect vacation seniority accrual.
The deadline to submit a ballot in the Primary Vacation Bidding Period is Monday, March 7, 2016 at 0800 CT.
Keep in mind that PBS will not be implemented during the 2016-2017 fiscal year and all trip removals would be on a trips missed basis.
Last Five Days Sequence Protection (L5D) – LAA
For Flight Attendants who are experiencing cancellations for the last trip in the last five days of the month, if contacted prior to sign in, Flight Attendants are only required to be on the Make Up list and to participate in the HISEND MU Round for each Day Originally Scheduled To Fly (DOSTF).
Your Guarantee is NOT automatically protected. The Flight Attendant must participate in the applicable HISEND MU Rounds (and be on the MU list for all days originally scheduled to fly plus 8 hours which may require the Flight Attendant to add their name to the MU list an additional day). The obligation window is indicated in your HI1 header after the cancellation. If the Flight Attendant opts out of protecting their guarantee, then the guarantee is incrementally reduced by the value of the sequence (if the Flight Attendant is at or below guarantee in PPROJ).
Also, a Flight Attendant is only obligated to participate in the HISEND MU rounds on DOSTF and to accept a single trip of any length that signs in within the obligation window until midnight of the last day of the month (originally scheduled trip plus eight (8) hours after scheduled arrival time). If the Flight Attendant does not participate or does not bid enough (and doesn’t state “plot to protect guarantee within obligation” on their HISEND message), the protection will be lost. If not plotted then the Flight Attendant may choose to participate in subsequent MU/II/CC/AB proffer rounds and may decline proffered flying without losing protection.
Please refer to the Scheduling page at APFA.org for a more detailed explanation including the Pay Protection Flow Chart for L5D.
For trips that do not meet the parameters of L5D, please follow the regular Misconnect, Illegality, and Cancelation (MIC) guidelines which can be reviewed on the scheduling page of APFA.org or in the On Duty Contract Guide, page 16-18.
