FACT Check – LAA

Airbus/737 Qualification at CQ

Q: I heard that we will be forced to qualify on Airbus and 737 during CQ, is this true?
A: No. As previously announced, the Company will be training all LAA Flight Attendants on the Airbus (A319/A320/A321) and the 737 to ensure all Flight Attendants are qualified on core equipment prior to Full Operational Integration (FOI). Based on the success of the proffer method used for Overwater Training, we reached agreement with the Company to use this same process for Airbus and 737 training that began with proffers for the month of April. This will allow Flight Attendants to bid for and be assigned their training class date prior to bidding each month. They can then bid for the month knowing their class date and bid to avoid or create conflicts with training.

Each month the Company will notify every base of the seniority number of the most senior person subject to drafting. If you are junior to that seniority number you can submit a ballot so that your training date can be awarded based on your seniority in the event there are not enough proffers for the month. Flight Attendants still have the opportunity to get 737 qualified when attending CQ by using the Voluntary enrollment process if they have not proffered or been drafted by the time they attend CQ. In addition, Flight Attendants will still have the ability to trigger for the Airbus.

LUS ODCG Pushed to FA Tablet & Available for Pick-up – LUS

APFA and American Airlines have worked together to create the First Edition of the On-Duty Contract Guide (ODCG) for LUS Flight Attendants. The ODCG helps Flight Attendants navigate through changes in work rules with one document that contains the most commonly referenced Contract language.

The LUS ODCG represents the current Contract language in place for LUS Flight Attendants as of April 2016, which includes portions still in effect from the 2013 Red Book Contract as well items implemented from the 2014 Joint Collective Bargaining Agreement (JCBA). Meanwhile, LAA Flight Attendants have a separate ODCG to reference.

The JCBA Implementation Schedule will continue to be updated as more dates are determined for implementation. The JCBA Implementation Schedule Chart can be found on the APFA website at APFA.org under the Contract and JCBA links. It can also be found on the Flight Service website under Contract Items.

A hard copy of the LUS ODCG is now available for pick-up in the Crew Service Centers at the LUS Bases, and is also available on the Flight Attendant tablet. You may also view the LUS ODCG by visiting our website at APFA.org.

Updated LAA ODCG Pushed to FA Tablet – LAA

The most recent edition of the LAA ODCG is now available for viewing on the Flight Attendant tablet. This latest edition includes the new Rates of Pay, now in effect, and the Interim Pay Protections for LAA Flight Attendants. You may also view the LAA ODCG by visiting our website at APFA.org.

VLOA Ballot for May – LAA

The ballot for May Voluntary Leave of Absences (VLOAs) is now available on the Crew Resources page of the Flight Service website. An HI6 message will go out each month indicating when the ballot is available. The deadline to submit a ballot for May VLOAs is Friday, April 15 at 0900 Central Time. To find out if you are granted a voluntary leave check your HI10. The Voluntary Leave code in your HI10 will be “VL”.

VLOA Thresholds – LAA

If you are awarded a partial month Voluntary Leave Of Absence (VLOA) and have fifteen (15) or more active days for the month, you are considered active for the month, just like any other Flight Attendant who is active for fifteen (15) or more days in month. This means your HISK will reflect a Y for VC and SK accrual eligibility and your threshold will not reduce by 35.00 hours for the month. If you have less than fifteen (15) active days due to a VLOA, then your HISK will reflect a L for VC and SK accrual eligibility and your threshold will reduce by 35.00 hours for the month.

Bereavement Days – LAA/LUS

Section 25.L.1 of the 2014 JCBA provides time away from work to help manage the difficulties associated with the death of a family member. As a reminder, current bereavement policy is as follows:

Upon notification to your Flight Service Manager, Duty Manager (MOD), or (if after hours) to Flight Service Operations at IOC, you’ll be granted up to three (3) consecutive days off if there is a death in your immediate family. Flight Service Operations can be reached at 682-315-7070. A Flight Attendant shall receive four (4) hours pay and credit per day, for three (3) consecutive days.

Immediate family members are:

  • Your spouse
  • Your domestic partner, as defined by Company policy
  • Your child/children
  • Your step child/step children
  • Your grandchildren
  • Your parents and the parents of your spouse or domestic partner
  • Your step-parents and the step-parents of your spouse or domestic partner
  • Your brother or sister and the brother or sister of your spouse or domestic partner
  • Your grandparents and the grandparents of your spouse or domestic partner
  • Your legal guardian
  • Any relative who resides with you
  • Any member of your household residing at the same address

If you require additional time off, your Flight Service Manager will work with you and grant POs/Personal Days to the extent possible.

LAA Flight Attendants – PVDs may be taken in conjunction with Bereavement up to your annual allotment of 6. PVDs will be eliminated concurrent with implementation of PBS.
