Interim Pay Protections Become Effective May 2nd – LAA
We are several months away from integrating the system to support the pay protection policies outlined in the JCBA. Recognizing how important it is for you to be able to protect your pay for all of your scheduled trips as soon as possible, we’ve reached an interim agreement for Legacy American Flight Attendants to expand pay protection to all scheduled hours beyond the monthly guarantee. This new, interim protection applies to all flying beginning with the May 2016 contractual month and remains in effect until the JCBA pay protection provisions are implemented (anticipated later this year).
We’ve updated the LAA On Duty Contract Guide (replacing the procedures outlined on pages 16-17) and included some common scenarios to illustrate how the interim pay protection policy will apply:

You can view it on your tablet or click here to view it online and/or download it to your personal mobile device. A limited number of printed copies were also shipped to each base. You can ask for one at your Duty Manager’s office.
Coming May! Reserves: How long do I have to return a call to Crew Schedule? Section 12.H.4. – LAA
Sitting ready Reserve and miss a call from Crew Schedule? Section 12.H.4. has now been implemented. If you’ve provided two phone contacts (a primary and a secondary), you will have 15 minutes to respond to Crew Schedule from the time they call you on your secondary contact number, otherwise it is 15 minutes from the initial call.
Willingness-to-Serve Posted for Upcoming Base Vice President Elections for LAX, RDU and STL – LAA
The National Ballot Committee (NBC) has posted the Willingness-to-Serve (WTS) for the position of Base Vice President for LAX, RDU and STL on the APFA website. All WTS forms must be in the designated PO Box, found at the bottom of the form, by 1000 CT, May 25, 2016.
If you have questions regarding the WTS form, please contact the NBC at [email protected] or 817-540-0108 x8311.
If more than one (1) member from the base submits a WTS, an election will be conducted. Ballots, including the candidate information booklet, will be mailed to the membership at that particular base, on June 14, 2016 and all votes must be cast by July 14, 2016 at 10:00am CT.
MD80 Qualification Drop – LAA
Eligible Flight Attendants must submit an online ballot, which may be found on the Flight Service website: Crew Resources page – Featured Links – Crew Planning. The ballot was opened on April 18, 2016 at 10:00 CDT and it will close on May 10, 2016 at 10:00 CDT.
The requirements have changed from the previous MD80 qualification drop in order for more Flight Attendants to be eligible. The percentages offered are increased for most bases.
Eligibility is determined by base seniority at current base as of June 2, 2016 according to the table below. Percentages of top seniority by base eligible for the qualification drop have been determined by the number of MD80 lines currently flown as well as the Relative reserve seniority at each base. The current Bottom Seniority Eligible for Drop listed below is informational only, subject to change with upcoming transfers, attrition and new hires.
*Current Bottom Seniority Eligible for Drop posted above is informational only. Bottom Seniority Eligible for the Drop will be updated on 4/26/16 to reflect seniority after the June transfer has processed.
- Flight Attendants must be qualified on other equipment flown at the base to be eligible.
- Qualification drops will be granted to eligible Flight Attendants in seniority order at the Company’s discretion.
- Flight Attendants may be required to re-qualify as provided by the JCBA, if manning requirements change.
As MD80 flying is anticipated to continue to decrease this year, Flight Service and Crew Planning will review manning requirements in the Fall of 2016 to consider additional MD80 qualification drops.
