Know Your Legalities

We have been experiencing some serious weather related problems, especially in and out of DFW. Now that the training center has been moved to DFW, we have Flight Attendants traveling to the two-day training nearly every day of the week.

The JCBA language Section 29.E.4, which can also be referenced on your tablets, states:

A Flight Attendant who reports to the airport for her/his scheduled deadhead to training, including a scheduled deadhead from her/his residence as specified in Paragraph H.1, and the flight fails to operate or is delayed so that the Flight Attendant will not be able to attend training or arrive home within the sixteen (16) hour limitation will receive a minimum of three (3) hours pay and credit, provided an alternate deadhead flight and training class is not available within the sixteen (16) hour limitation, determined by the check-in time for the original flight.

Please be sure to file a claim for the three (3) hours pay and credit. You are also entitled to per diem until you return to base. Per diem should be automatic, but I would recommend filing a claim for that as well.

With all of the weather that has been affecting our flights, remember to reference the Hours of Service chart in the 2013 Red Book Contract, Section 11 E. The Company provided laminated Hours of Service cards to carry with us. If you do not have the cards, you can pick them up at any crew service center.  The tablet also has this information, including the Rest Requirement chart. The LUS On-Duty Contract Guide is also available at the crew service centers and on your tablet.

PHL Base Meeting

PHL will be hosting a base meeting May 25th from 12 PM until 4 PM at the Hampton Inn PHL Airport. We will be discussing current base specific issues. Our Air Quality Specialist Mary Lynn Gardner will be there to talk about AQ/cabin odor events.  Our newly elected National Officers will also be here, so please come out and welcome them.

Wings Foundation

We would like to thank the volunteers from the Wings Foundation for visiting PHL and bringing attention to this wonderful program that provides financial assistance to Flight Attendants in need. We have two excellent volunteers that head up this program for PHL, Sarah Bly and Susan Henry. Thank you both for all your hard work and dedication to this program.

Please visit www.wingsfoundation.com for more information.

UNICEF – Change for Good
Champions for Children is coming to PHL

Change for Good was created in 1987 and is one of UNICEF’s longest-running global fundraising campaigns. The concept is simple: travelers on international flights can donate their unused currency or make a cash donation to benefit children. Contributions are used to provide lifesaving assistance to the world’s poorest, most vulnerable children in over 190 countries.  Since 1994, American has collected more than $10.7 million, to support Change for Good.

Through UNICEF’s Change for Good program on American Airlines, travelers can make donations of foreign and domestic currency on select American Airlines international flights (including flights to/from Canada and Mexico) and at Admirals Club (except Latin America).

While this can be just a bit of change for travelers, this employee-led volunteer effort generates an average of one million dollars a year to support the UNICEF’s Change for Good program and has helped save and improve the lives of millions of children around the world.

What is wonderful about this program is that you can help vulnerable children worldwide just by signing up to be a “Champion for Children” and offering a few minutes of your time while at work.  You can do it as much or as little as your schedule permits.

For more information please attend the base blitz on May 17 & 18 or visit Jetnet.

NAI (Norwegian Air International)

The Coalition of Flight Attendants is planning a huge picket line event in front of the White House to show opposition to the recent tentative approval of NAI.  If you would like to come out and show your support of this very important issue, it will be held on Thursday, May 12th at Lafayette Park, across from the White House in Washington D.C., beginning at Noon.
