APFA BOARD OF DIRECTOR’S MEETING RECAP

Last week, Brian Morgan and I attended the APFA Board of Director’s meeting in Dallas-Fort Worth. The meeting was productive. We were provided reports from all of the APFA Department Chairs, as well as the National Officers and Joint Scheduling Implementation Committee (JSIC).

We were also provided an update on the United Airlines Contract. APFA Joint Negotiating Committee members, the JSIC and attorneys are working with Dan Akins who has been our industry analyst for many years, to determine the contract valuations.  As soon as they have completed all of that, they will begin negotiations with the Company.

Also at the meeting some important resolutions were passed to move forward with a Constitutional Review Committee and a Policy Manual Review Committee, both of which will be a big job and could take quite a while, but it is necessary to get started.  The Budget Committee has been given the okay to incorporate a budget for these committees to be approved at the March 2017 Annual Convention.

We were provided the information on the Company’s process for uniform reactions. APFA Health and IOD departments have been working diligently to resolve these issues for our membership.  If you are having a reaction please visit APFA.org and fill out the Uniform Reaction Report, and follow the procedures the Company has just put in place.  LUS Flight Attendants who experience reactions to the new uniform can contact the reporting line at 800-327-0117 (options 2-5-6-1-2).

Hurricane Matthew was also on the priority list. The first few days, the information was still very fluid with regards to the path of Matthew. The WINGS Foundation has a Disaster Relief Fund that you may donate to that will help, aid and assist any of our crew members who suffer losses during this horrific storm.

MUTUAL TRANSFERS BETWEEN LUS BASES LOA

The APFA and the Company have agreed to implement this provision from the JCBA effective with the December 2016 bid month. This provision is language that was adopted from the LAA Contract. Prior to the Letter of Agreement (LOA) LUS F/A’s did not have the ability to transfer between bases, unless vacancy openings were offered.

This is actually language that in our opinion should have been implemented at Date of Signing of the 2014 JCBA. There is no programming involved, just some administrative paperwork. In the last year on the LUS side, there has only been base vacancy transfers offered twice.  We have not received any new hires on the LUS side in 2016, which would also trigger openings prior to them being placed. We have been told there will be new hire classes all throughout 2017, and most if not all will be going to the LAA side. Without any vacancies or new hires, this will keep our current LUS bases closed.

Another reason this language was important to implement; the game changed when the Company announced the delay of Flight Attendant Operation Integration (FOI), along with the continued announcements of route swaps, metal swaps, and loss of international flying. Flight attendants need the ability to make decisions based on their life needs.

APFA will continue to push the Company to implement as many items as possible prior to FOI that will benefit the members that are harmed by the delay in being able to fly as one airline. I will continue to support the JSIC as they press the Company.

HOTEL AND TRANSPORTATION

We all know this is out of control. CATS and the Crew Portal is supposed to have the updated information on the day of origination, unless there is a last minute change while you are already on your trip.  We recommend when you check in for your trip, you print out each day of the pairing to have the information in case it may have changed from the bid packet that was printed the month prior.

APFA does have a Hotel and Transportation Debrief Form available at APFA.org should you experience any problems with the hotel or transportation.
