The hard working Flight Attendants at American Airlines were delivered not one, but two disappointing blows this week.

First, the Wage Adjustment Arbitration Panel ruled in favor of the Company. The arbitration award is a 1.6% pay increase retroactive to September 2016.  This award leaves us well behind our industry peers while shareholders and management enjoy the lion’s share of incredible profits. We are all extremely disappointed in this ruling.

As if that hit wasn’t hard enough, the Company also finally provided an FOI timeline date of October of 2018- another 18 months away.

What do we do now? We do what we have always done when we have had setbacks delivered to us by management. We lived through bankruptcy where we all made huge sacrifices and we survived. We survived because of our passion for our careers-we remained professional and poised.  We stood tall and we didn’t allow management to break our stride and divide us.

No one is saying this week didn’t suck- it did, but we cannot let these setbacks define who we are as Flight Attendants, as human beings, and Union members. We have to brush ourselves off, stand up straight, hold our heads high, and stand together.

The Company has to recognize they have nearly 27,000 front line employees that they disappointed yet again, and really slapped in the face. That’s okay- we are bigger, we are better, and we are stronger.

What we will not do is let management tear us apart. Social media is a breeding ground for Union busting and we cannot fall prey to that due to our anger and frustration.

United we Bargain, Divided we Beg. This statement holds true for any situation- when we are united, we speak with one voice. A group of 27,000 is difficult to ignore.

Please join us on May 3rd at the Hampton Inn Airport PHL from 11am-3pm for a base meeting. APFA National President Bob Ross and Members of the Joint Scheduling Implementation Committee (JSIC) will be in attendance to answer your questions. Also in attendance will be APFA Safety Chair Noelle Weiler, APFA Contract Chair Chuck Ransdale, and APFA Scheduling Chair Daniel Koukes. We have also invited APFA Retirement Specialist Ron Harris, who will be providing a condensed version of his popular retirement seminar.

We hope to see you there!
