Dear Philadelphia Flight Attendants,

By now, I am sure you have heard the news that Glasgow, Shannon and Lisbon seasonal service, beginning April of 2018, will be flown on LAA metal. This will be taking the time out of Philadelphia base flying. Additionally, two new destinations will be announced from Philadelphia next year, also with LAA metal. This reduction of block hours is by far the biggest blow yet to our base with this merger. To say I am furious is an understatement, and I made this pointedly clear to the Company.

Brian and I have talked to Bob Ross, APFA National President, and he has committed to working with us as well as the Company to find ways to mitigate the negative impact on our members. He also echoed our frustration and concerns over this announcement.

Short of transfers and FOI which both would solve the problem, we are going to have to be very creative to try to find solutions to lessen the financial impact as well as the quality- of- life impact this will have on the Philadelphia Flight Attendants. We will leave no stone unturned as we recognize the financial impact this will have on our members in Philadelphia, and we absolutely do not take that lightly.

I have asked the Company if this flying will transfer back to the Philadelphia base at FOI (currently set for October, 2018). This is not something they were willing to promise; however, they have stated that that does make the most practical sense from a network planning and financial perspective.

The financial impact of losing this seasonal time to our Flight Attendants is immeasurable. As of today, I don’t have an answer to fix the Company’s problem that has now become our problem. I cannot even begin to describe how frustrated and angry I am with this decision. The Company’s inability to complete this merger once again falls on the backs of the Flight Attendants.

Typically, I always try to smooth over bad news with a silver lining to try and paint a larger picture.

Not today, because I am mad as hell.
