Labor Day marks an important holiday for all hard-working Americans. For many in the aviation industry, even holidays are labor days. We have suffered through years of turbulence resulting in significant cuts in salaries, pensions, and benefits. Our sacrifices have been tremendous over the past decade and although we have managed to weather the storm and make modest recoveries, our work is far from over.
As we celebrate the labor movement today, take a moment to reflect on the historic contributions workers have made to the prosperity of our country. Labor is the true foundation of any healthy economy and with the steep decline in union membership in recent decades, it is more important than ever to keep the labor movement alive through strong coalitions and a commitment to solidarity and the preservation of the basic principles of unionism.
