Anniversary of USAir Flight 427 Crash – LAA/LUS
Today we commemorate the 23rd anniversary of the tragic crash of USAir Flight 427, killing all 132 people on board. The Boeing 737 crashed while approaching the runway at Pittsburgh International Airport after a rudder malfunction. Our hearts and minds are with the victim’s families including those of the 5 crew members who perished:

APFA National Officers and other APFA representatives will attend the Remembrance and Reflection Ceremony on September 11th at the 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial in Grapevine Texas. Please join us if you are in the DFW area Monday. Uniforms are preferred but not required.
The 9/11 Flight Crew Memorial is dedicated to the 33 flight crew members that were lost and those that courageously continue to be the ever-vigilant professionals of the airline industry.
It is located at 1000 Texan Trail, Grapevine, TX 76051. Parking will be available at the businesses along Texan Trail directly south of the memorial.
The Company is currently offering a Language Qualification Drop Proffer for eligible LAA Flight Attendants. The proffer opened on September 1, 2017 and will close on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 1700 CT. Awards will be available by close of business on October 6, 2017.
Eligibility Requirements:
LAA Flight Attendants who have 10 or more years of occupational seniority as of October. 1, 2017, and will not be serving a language lock-in as of November 1, 2017.
Flight Attendants may request to drop one or more language qualifications.
Executive Committee Meeting Cancelled – LAA/LUS
Due to Hurricane Irma and the uncertainty of getting the operation back to normal following the storm, the 2Q17 Executive Committee (EC) meeting that was to be held next Wednesday & Thursday, September 13th and 14th, 2017 at APFA HDQ has been cancelled. Updates will follow as soon new dates are secured.
TWU has planned another picketing event at LAX. We encourage Flight Attendants who are able to attend to stand alongside our colleagues in another show of solidarity.

These informative seminars will cover a wide range of topics including: Pensions, 401(k), COBRA, Medicare, and Retiree Travel.
LAA Flight Attendants can pull a pension estimate by visiting the Pension Service Center in Jetnet.
LUS Flight Attendants can request a pension estimate in the mail by calling the PBGC at (800)400-7242.
All members are invited to attend, regardless of base or seniority. It’s never too early to start planning for retirement!

Upcoming Social Security Seminars at BOS & DFW – LAA/LUS
The Flagship Financial Group, the financial planning division of the American Airlines Credit Union, will be holding complimentary seminars at BOS and DFW about Social Security during the month of October.
At BOS there will be a morning and afternoon seminar on Tuesday, October 3rd: 10:00am – 11:00am and 1:00pm – 2:00pm at the Massport Briefing Room at Boston Logan Airport.
In DFW there will be two evening seminars Thursday, October 19th: 5:30pm – 6:30pm and 7:00pm – 8:00pm in the Flagship Conference Room at the Credit Union Headquarters, 4151 Amon Carter Blvd., Ft. Worth, TX 76155.
Topics discussed will include: the program’s dependability, potential benefits, early benefits, full retirement age and the right time to file, receiving benefits while working, tax implications, and options for spouses, ex-spouses and widows/widowers.
