6.07.18 – DFW Base Brief – July Allocations Call

DFW July 2018 Allocations Call

Hey DFW,
Manning Information:
  • 5651 total headcount for July 2018. Increase of 205 Flight Attendants year over year. Increase of 88 Flight Attendants from June 2018
  • 5451 available headcount. DFW has 200 inactive Flight Attendants
  • 4097 bid jobs are planned. Increase of 92 jobs from June 2018
  • No open replacement lines are planned
  • 282 vacation relief lines are planned. Decrease of 13 relief lines year over year.
  • Manning will send out an HI6 if VLOA are available for July 2018
  • 1072 (19.7%) Flight Attendants are planned to serve reserve in July. System reserve percentage is 19.7%. Increase of 126 Flight Attendants from June 2018
  • July is the March rotation for Flight Attendants on the one-on three-off reserve rotation

Manning expects the weekends before and after the fourth of July to be high utilization peak flying periods. We recommend that all Flight Attendants on the back up reserve list bid reserve lines in addition to their regular selections.

Bidding vacation relief selections remain unpredictable. Filler trips may be added to vacation relief lines up to 85 hours. Remarks will be considered but may not be honored.

A mix of International and Domestic trips may be necessary. Remarks are read in highest to lowest priority.

76 Flight Attendants were awarded transfer to DFW effective 7/2.

No vacancy transfers are planned for August. Mutual transfers will be processed on 7/5 for an effective date of 8/1. Information regarding transfers can be found on the Flight Service website under Crew Resources/Crew Planning

Allocations Call:

A minor schedule change is planned on July 5th. There will be some schedule adjustments for the extended fourth of July period of 6/30-7/7

A hot topic at the monthly allocations call is the target line average. All bases try to lower their line average. A lower line average would create more bid jobs and hopefully reduce reserve Flight Attendants.

We stressed to the Company that Flight Attendants need flexibility during the summer months when children are home from school and summer activities are planned. The JCBA allows the Company to build lines to 90 hours. Manning/Allocations have remained firm each month and maintained a higher than desired line average for all bases.

DFW lost SFO turns that operate daily for July. The optimizer took many high-time turns and incorporated these turns into three day trips. We argued with allocations that the SFO turn is a staple on the DFW bidsheet. We requested that the Company adjust the sequences to create the SFO turns. We were successful in restoring the daily SFO turn. We also requested an optimizer programming modification in August.

The team discussed the quality of sequences. Many trips work excessive legs for low trip value. Sequences working six to eight legs is the new normal. Allocations builds the sequence according to the JCBA. Trip quality enhancement guidelines are taken into consideration as well.

Allocations predicts that once FOI is fully implemented, all bases will see improved sequence quality. We shall see….

When you pick up your bid packets for July, you will notice the trip sequences portion will be heftier. The Company is implementing the printed sequence language from the JCBA. The new sequence format is easy to read and provides additional information such as aircraft changes and a calendar view of the schedule operations.
