As you know, Asia block times are usually higher in the summer months. On Tuesday, we were noticed by the Company that, while building the bid line construction for JULY, the DFW-HKG sequence has significantly increased block times for July and August. The sequence block time was 31:30 in May and 31:35 in June. The block time for July will be 31:50, which would result in a total of 95:30 for pure HKG lines, thus violating the contract.
The Company has asked for an exception letter to exceed the 95-hour limit for pure bid lines of DFW-HKG only. After having several in depth conversations with the bid sheet team and others, we have decided to grant the exception letter for July ONLY.
Here is why:
With the exception letter, the Company can build ten pure HKG lines at 95:30. Without the exception letter, it will build thirteen HKG lines—nine of which would have two HKG sequences and one LHR sequence. Pulling in those LHR sequences would reduce three LHR lines, resulting in NO net change in total jobs. Also, without the exception letter, the Company would need to pull 12 speakers off reserve and pull 12 more senior non-speakers onto reserve.
Given that we will face the same scenario in August, we are asking DFW Flight Attendants for their feedback. Would you like us to agree to the exception letter for August allowing the Company to build pure HKG lines at 95:30 hours?
