After 54 years, she retired from Texas Woman’s University in August of 2015. Bettye dedicated her life to education and was considered an “icon” in the city of Denton, Texas. The Myers Middle School was named after Bettye in 2013.

The Dr. Bettye Myers Humanitarian Award was established by the board of directors and lifetime members of United Way of Denton County in 2014 to recognize the highest level of community leadership, philanthropy and collective impact with time and resources.
