LRD Tool and PBS Bidding

When toggling to Lineholder in the LRD tool, it is IMPERATIVE that you create both a Reserve and Lineholder monthly bid in PBS.

In December, we were made aware of two Flight Attendants who toggled to Lineholder, and when PBS opened, their Dashboard indicated they were on Reserve. During the PBS run, the computer was able to honor their initial LRD request to Lineholder. Unfortunately, both Flight Attendants assumed they were on Reserve and did not submit a backup Lineholder bid or have a quality standing bid on file. Both were awarded a line of unbid sequences.

This logic is highlighted in the PBS Manual and is referred to as a Bubble Bidder. Once you toggle to Lineholder status in the LRD tool, the computer will try to honor that request throughout the bid run even if your Dashboard status is Reserve. Consequently, if your Dashboard status is Lineholder, the system will never convert you to Reserve, and any Reserve bids will be ignored.

We would like to thank these two Flight Attendants for bringing this to our attention, and hopefully this won’t happen to anyone else in the future.

In Solidarity,
