April 2022 Staffing and Allocations

All,

The total block hours for April will be 166,739. This represents an 8.5% increase from March, but still down 31% from pre-COVID levels.

The transfer list for May was cleared, which means new hires will be sent to Miami out of training sometime after May. I haven’t been able to confirm the exact date. The base is projected to grow, and this will have a positive impact on lowering the seniority levels for our Reserves.

The Reserve list for April is projected at 18.5% with a requirement of 527 heads. This is up 1% from March, and about 1% lower than the system average. Contributing factors include a higher absentee rate, and coverage concerns for Easter weekend. I continue to challenge these percentages, as they do not line up with the historical data.

There will be no sequence constructed with a layover of less than 11 hours system-wide, as the Company prepares for the implementation of the upcoming 10-hour FAR minimum rest requirement. Most layovers will be in excess of 12 hours, with only 2% between 11 and 12 hours. This coupled with the delay in the 787 orders, will change the complexity of the bidsheet.

Miami will see a sizable increase in narrow-body NIPD turns, and the elimination of all wide-body turns both in the Domestic and International operation. There will be less overnights in the Caribbean and Latin America cites which is primarily responsible for the increase in NIPD turns. Despite the noticeable increase in NIPD turns, the duration percentages of the sequences remain about the same as the previous month. ODANs will decrease averaging about one sequence per day.

There will be more co-pairing with the pilots in and out of major hubs, and this will decrease sit times that are over three hours.
