April 2023 Staffing and Allocations

This has been a busy end to the winter – the summer season will be no different! Please continue to arm yourself with knowledge of the contract and report anything which deviates from our contractual language to the appropriate parties:

The April staffing and allocations call was held this morning. Here are some highlights:

• The LHR-SEA has transitioned to a DFW-based trip for April. The rationale from the company was that our seasonal IPD flying returned and we did not need the filler. We will continue to push for the return of this trip – Dallas has enough flying!
• The LHR hotel market is being stretched thin with the addition of 3 new flights in the system. The market was sourced again, and 3 new properties have been added. One of the challenges is getting a hotel to accept more than 2 or 3 crews max. The current plan is for all ORD trips to remain at the High Street location, with a pickup 2.5 hrs. before departure. Pickup time is a never-ending battle in LHR and other stations. Please keep us informed of any issues with excessive waits at the airport.
• CDG transitions from 2056 departure to 2229 departure starting April 4th –still maintaining a 24 hour+ layover
• There is one domestic 787 trip – SEQ1911/4APR
• Over 100 sequences start or end with a DH – perfect for commuters! JCBA Section 16 – Deadheading
• ODAN Daily Departures are up for April– we will keep an eye on how these trips are being covered

Chicago can expect a handful of new hires after the PBS run. We hope the steady stream continues.

Important dates for April:

• Easter Sunday is April 9th
• Coachella is in Palm Springs the 2nd and 3rd weekends – this means more Palm Springs flying those weekends

Important dates for IPD returns later in the Summer:

• BCN returns May 3rd with 1740 ORD departure
• ATH returns June 1st with 1500 ORD departure
• DUB returns June 1st with 2210 ORD departure

Staffing

• ORD RSV percentage – 18.0% or 406 Reserves 
• Expected line average for ORD at PBS open is 78.7

• Systemwide RSV percentage for April – 19.4%
• Expected line average systemwide at PBS open is 79.0

Trip Construction

• 1-day: 26% in April vs 29% in March
• 2-day: 30% in April vs 30% in March
• 3-day: 40% in April vs 34% in March
• 4plus-day: 4% in April vs 7% in March
• ODAN Starts per day: 19.00 in April vs 13.50 in March
