May 2023 PHL Staffing and Allocations

Hello, PHL –

As many of us already know, we found out about the PHL-MAD service reduction via news outlets/social media and not from management. We communicated to Network Planning that their lack of communication was not only disrespectful, but offensive to all Flight Attendants in the PHL Base. We are at the beginning of our international season and to have a route significantly reduced is something that should have been communicated to us as soon as the decision was made.

Yesterday, we had the Staffing and Allocations call for May. There were a few surprises. For the month of May, our total flying hours are down by 964 hours. Our ODAN schedule is reduced as well, and the reduction of the MAD flight was something none of us anticipated. After Crew Planning found out about the suspension, they attempted to spread the more than 3000 lost hours across the system instead of just taking it away from PHL.

We made our points very clear to management. The PHL Flight Attendants will not sit idly by while our flying is reduced without any communication to local Union Leadership and the Base.

Reserve and Line Average 

We are set to have 385 reserve Flight Attendants, which is 17.1%. All new hire flight attendants are included in the reserve count. The line average will open at 80.8. There will be added frequencies to IND to accommodate the Indy 500 May 25- May 29. Look for added frequency to SDF as well. The Kentucky Derby is May 5 – May 7. Memorial Day is May 29, so plan your commute accordingly. There will be a reduction in flights on Saturday, May 28. Keep in mind that May is traditionally graduation month for local colleges and high schools. You can anticipate hotel rooms selling out quickly. Commuters, please plan accordingly.

ODANS

There is a significant reduction in ODAN flying for May. PHL will have one sequence to PWM, one sequence to ORD, and four sequences to BOS only. We have asked network planning why there was such a drastic reduction and are waiting to hear back from them. We have made it very clear that PHL likes these trips and expects them to return.

Reminders

As a reminder, the new procedure for passenger service agents closing the aircraft door began April 3rd. Please remember the following must occur prior to door closure by the Agent:

• The Agent checks with the Captain
• The Agent checks with the #1/Purser to confirm the 3 B’s have been completed (Bins, Bags, Briefs)
• Should the Agent close the door prior to any of these items being completed, fill out an ASAP report and a CERS report.

Contract ACTION

Please stay up to date with negotiations. We have passed our economic package to the Company. It is vitally important for our entire workforce to remain engaged and educated in our contract negotiations. This is OUR contract and we need to be ready to take ACTION when ACTION is required! It will be our solidarity that will make the difference.
