Janet was a 33-year Flight Attendant and an integral part of the Training Department. A few years ago, Janet lost her husband Joe McCarthy due to illness. Joe was also a beloved Flight Attendant and Trainer. We all know that both Janet and Joe are now flying high together again!

On January 3, APFA Base Representatives had the monthly staffing and allocations call with the Company. Every month, we continually request more Flight Attendants to have the option to be PHX-based, especially new hires. We have pointed out to the Company that the vacancy transfer list is mostly junior Flight Attendants subject to 1 on/1 off Reserve and new hires still on straight Reserve. Clearing the list or giving us more of these transfers will reduce the need for more senior Flight Attendants to be subject to Reserve. However, our absenteeism remains high. Red Flag coverage has been requested in the PHX base for the past few days in early January because of the lack of Reserve availability.

February 2024 Schedule Highlights

The Super Bowl LVIII flying schedule for American Airlines will operate from February 8-13. We will see additional trips to/from PHX/LAS during the period.

On February 15, we will see an increase from one daily roundtrip from PHX-HNL-PHX on the Boeing 787 to two daily roundtrips on the Boeing 787 and Airbus 321neo.

ODANs for February will be at 14.1 starts. 14.1 starts means that an average of 14 Flight Attendants will begin ODAN sequences each day of the month. Our highest start in 2023 was June with 20.7 starts per day.

Negotiations Update

Your APFA Negotiations team met in federally supervised mediation in Tampa, Florida, December 12-14. Our next negotiation session is scheduled for January 9-11 in DFW.

As we have previously reported, once we are in federal mediation, the timing and location of negotiations are controlled by the federal mediators. Negotiations Update #45: Bargaining Update

Worldwide Flight Attendant Day of Action

Join us on Tuesday, February 13, at more than 30 airports for a Worldwide Flight Attendant Day of Action and picketing event. Stand in solidarity with us to demand that airline management stop the stall tactics and negotiate the contracts we deserve!
