2.21.25 – APFA ORD Base Brief – Friday, February 21, 2025

Friday, February 21, 2025

Happy February everyone.

We are safety professionals with great responsibility. These last few weeks have reminded everyone in the aviation industry of this.

If you need support during these times, please use your resources and contact EAP. You must take care of yourself first to ensure you can take care of others.

APFA Base Elections

We want to take a moment to address the recent Base Representative announcements. Dray and I will continue as your ORD base leaders; however, we chose to run for different positions: Justin as Base President and Dray as Vice President. We were both duly elected, and our new term begins on April 1st.

Thank you to all who stepped up to serve as Base Council Representatives. We look forward to collaborating with you in the future.

If you are friends with anyone at bases where elections are happening, please remind everyone to vote. As Union Members, we owe it to everyone to step up and participate whenever we have a choice.

Vacation Bidding

The Primary Round of Vacation Bidding will close on Wednesday, February 26 at 12:00 PM (CT). Primary Round awards will be posted no later than Monday, March 3 at 1200 PM (CT).

Professional Standards

There has been a severe uptick in people reporting each other to the company. When the company becomes aware of an issue, it has an obligation to ensure that it is fully investigated and handled.

We have resources available to keep issues out of the hands of management. That resource is professional standards which offers peer-to-peer support.

Why is professional standards an avenue for expressing frustrations about a situation preferred over turning someone into the company? When professional standards directly brings an issue forward, it can help avoid discipline and company intervention and resolve the issue more quickly, thanks to this peer-to-peer approach.  Click here for more information.

APFA Safety

Please save the APFA Safety Notification System phone number. This vital resource does not replace company procedures and should be used alongside contacting the company; it serves as an additional resource to help you access the information and resources available to you.
