Boarding Times and Pay

  • Boarding pay is paid at half the hourly rate, then prorated for the number of minutes contractually required to board.
  • The company is flexing domestic boarding times by :05 effective May 1, 2025 per the provisions of CBA Sec 11.M. This will naturally affect boarding pay.
  • The boarding time flex of 5 additional minutes means that:
    • Domestic narrowbody aircraft with less than 161 seats change from :30 boarding time to :35 boarding time
    • Domestic narrowbody aircraft with 161 seats or more change from :35 boarding time to :40 boarding time
    • Domestic widebody aircraft change  from :35 boarding time to :40 boarding time
    • Boarding times for NIPD and IPD flights will NOT change on May 1.
  • Boarding Pay Calculations:
    • The easiest calculation currently would be for a domestic 319 with no flex.
    • A domestic 319 with no flex currently has a :30 boarding time. One boarding event on this aircraft would be half the hourly rate, and then half again since boarding is :30.

State Disability Packet

California State Disability is available to California employees for income protection up to one year.

Several years ago, I created a PDF packet to assist flight attendants who are applying for California State Disability.

I’ve been revising the packet at least a couple of times each year, and just completed the latest revision yesterday.

The latest revision is 4/17/25 and includes a significant amount of new information.

This packet contains all of the information you would need to apply for California State Disability.

LAX Employee Bus

I contacted LAX Managing Director, Radney Robertson, asking if AA could reinstate the employee bus between the Employee Lot and the high gates at Terminal 4. This bus was previously called the “Envoy bus.”

Radney replied that they are considering it and are trying to work through the logistics. He promised to keep me updated.

Stay tuned.

LAX Non-Rev Shuttle Tracker

APFA LAX Vice President, Cody Steele asked the Company if they could provide an app to track the LAX Non-Rev Shuttle.

The Company has confirmed that there is an existing app which has gone live.

The app is named TransLoc and is available for both Apple and Android devices.

CQ WBT Module Length Documentation Form

From the April 12, 2025 APFA hotline:

Flight Attendants who have started their 2025-2026 CQ web-based training modules are reporting that the time required to complete the training exceeds the contractual limit.

According to CBA Section 29.G.2the total number of hours for any Distance Learning may not exceed eight (8) hours. To address this concern with Management and to challenge the length of the CQ modules, we need to gather data from Flight Attendants who have completed or will complete the online training for their upcoming CQ Training.

We’ve created a form on the APFA website to document the actual time required to complete the CQ web-based training. Your input will help ensure our CQ web-based training is contractually compliant. Please take a moment to complete the form by clicking here:

CQ WBT Completion Times Report Form

The form will include the space for you to provide the following information:

  • Time it took to complete each CQ module
  • Link to upload screenshots of completion times from the Learning Hub
  • Date you started work on your modules
  • Date you completed your modules
  • Date you attended/will attend CQ

Important note: In order to capture accurate completion times, you should log out of the module if you need to step away for any reason. Once you are ready to resume the module, you should log back in. Within the link to the CQ WBT Completion Times Report Form we have included videos with step-by-step instructions on capturing the actual completion times, as well as logging in and out of the modules.

Thank you for taking the time to complete the form and provide this information. It takes the collective effort of all Flight Attendants to hold this management accountable.

Remaining May 2025 Bidding Timelines

Meeting With Bobbi Wells

Inflight VP Bobbi Wells and Regional Director Keith McCarty met with Cody, Rick and me on Tuesday, April 15th, at LAX to discuss with us the new structure for Inflight Management at each base.

These changes were shared with all flight attendants a couple months ago. However, we still do not know who will function in each capacity at LAX going forward.

We also took the opportunity to discuss issues of importance to LAX flight attendants:

  • Return of displaced LAX Flight Attendants
  • Reduction in Reserve seniority
  • Additional flying, and staffing of a greater percentage of LAX and coterminal departures with LAX Flight Attendants
  • Creating a robust coterminal preferencing system for Reserves
  • Creating a preferencing system for Purser Reserves

Bobbi Wells took copious notes. We committed to her that we would continue to follow up on these, and other, issues of importance to LAX Flight Attendants.

That’s it for this update. Safe travels!

In Solidarity,

John Nikides
