5.16.25 – APFA MIA Base Brief – Staffing Base Grievance

Staffing Base Grievance
Friday, May 16, 2025
All,
By now, you are certainly aware of the Company’s reinstatement of additional beverage services to many flights. This came with a one-day notification, and no added staffing or supplies.
I have filed a Base Grievance to challenge the additional workload. As you know, APFA did not prevail in our last staffing arbitration award of December 2024, whereby testimony of the Company stated, “There are no plans to expand the service footprint.”
The Company has announced the extra beverage services, and an “Afternoon Tea Service” test, certainly coming to a flight near you. Obviously, the Company believes that the arbitration award allows them to add services as they please.
We still have contractual language (Section 10.Q) that gives us the right to dispute the Company’s abuse of its staffing discretion and unreasonable workloads. I know Flight Attendants are happy to deliver service, with proper staffing. I will continue to fight to have our rightful staffing restored.
“No Plans” has proven to be a concerning term over the years. There are “No Plans” to reduce staffing on the 787-9P, meanwhile the Company is trying to recertify minimum crew to seven. Stay tuned for this one.
In Solidarity,
