Independence Day

As we celebrate July 4th, may you find moments to reflect, recharge, and enjoy time with those who matter most. For those flying during this busy holiday weekend, please remember to stay hydrated, take care of yourselves, and look out for one another on the line. Your safety and well-being always come first.

While APFA is closed in observance of this national holiday, the LGA Base Council remains available to assist members with emergencies that are outside the scope of management. Update on American Airlines Denial of Sit Rig Pay
to Reserve Flight Attendants

As I communicated via a live message on Facebook, members continue to be deprived of rightfully earned wages agreed to in the CBA. It is APFA’s position that the CBA ratified in 2024 was clear: Reserve Flight Attendants are to be paid for their sit rigs, regardless of hours flown during the reserve contractual month.

Currently, management has withheld these wages in violation of the CBA. I have filed a base grievance and have participated in discussions with the Board of Directors on how we can effectively address this matter with precision, and avoid a long, drawn-out arbitration process—a tactic often used by management to delay paying members what is rightfully owed.

Please stay informed through official APFA communications. When possible, avoid the noise on social media or be distracted from issues that undermine the meaning of true unionism. American’s decision to ignore compensation outlined in the CBA is not only alarming—it is a matter that leaves no room for internal battles or self-serving distractions.

IROPS & the Ongoing Failure of Management to Support
Flight Attendants in the Operation

Flight Attendants are expected to show up ready and accountable every day. Unfortunately, the same can’t always be said for the systems meant to support us. When irregular operations (IROPS) occur, what’s revealed is the consistent failure of American Airlines management to handle operational disruptions effectively.

We understand the frustration and urgency you feel during delays, missed connections, hotel wait times, and reschedules. While members often turn to APFA first, it’s critical to understand: APFA does not control crew scheduling, cannot book hotels, and cannot intervene in live-time operations. These failures belong squarely on the shoulders of management.

That said, we are here to support and protect you — but we need you to follow the correct steps during these situations. Here’s how to get help when you’re stuck in the operation:

As your local base council, we work extremely hard to make sure we put out all we can to protect you and our contract while you are out there flying. We need your support in holding management accountable by filing reports and communicating with us.
