8.04.25 – APFA MIA Base Brief – September 2025 Staffing and Allocations

September 2025 MIA Staffing and Allocations
Monday, August 4, 2025
All,
The summer will start to wind down in a few weeks, but hurricane season is not over until November. The customary delays, cancelations, and reschedules will continue. Remember, with large operational disruptions and IROPs there are long wait times for calls into scheduling/tracking.
As a reminder, hotel and limo requests can now be made in ECS. Please see the July 24, 2025 hotline from the Contract Implementation Committee (CIC) for more information on using ECS for hotel and limo requests.
Adjustments and repairs to live sequences can take much longer than normal. Pay protection adjustments may take several days, or possibly until close-out (by the 10th of the next month) to appear on your schedule. Continue to pack lots of patience!
Miami Base Reps can be reached by text or call at 954.890.2732, or email at [email protected]. Please utilize these contacts for the fastest response to an issue. The central contact allows us to send your question or concern to the first available representative.

Month in Review – Your MIA Base Reps at Work
Commuter Policy
There seems to be some confusion about the Commuter Policy. Simply standing by for two flights does not qualify under the policy if both flights were full at check-in time.
Below is the Contract Language for Section 37.I. Please read it carefully to protect yourself:
The rules concerning Flight Attendants who live in a city other than their crew base and commute to their assigned crew base will be as follows:
1. The rules set forth in this Agreement apply only to Flight Attendants who designate themselves as commuters with Inflight via the Company Intranet and list an airport served by American Airlines or its wholly owned carriers, or in the case of an offline carrier.
2. The commuting Flight Attendant must make all reasonable efforts to arrive in crew base at least one (1) hour prior to scheduled check-in or the start of the Reserve availability period.
3. A Flight Attendant will qualify under the Commuter Policy if the Flight Attendant’s:
a. first scheduled commuting flight cancels or is delayed as a result of weather, mechanical, Company convenience; or the equipment is downgraded within twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled departure; or has sufficient seats available (a load factor of less than ninety (90) percent at check-in time (within twenty-four (24) hours prior to departure) and the Flight Attendant is present at the departure gate for standby processing for the flight and the Flight Attendant is not cleared from the standby list because the flight is full; and,
b. subsequent scheduled flight for which the Flight Attendant is listed for travel cancels as a result of weather, mechanical, Company convenience; or the equipment is downgraded within twenty-four (24) hours prior to the scheduled departure; or the flight is delayed for at least thirty (30) minutes; or the flight is full. The Flight Attendant shall electronically notify the Company as soon as possible prior to their scheduled check-in and the Company will provide a confirmation receipt.
4. A Flight Attendant who attempts to commute on the first and/or second flight will satisfy the provisions of the commuter policy provided they meet the requirements above. The Flight Attendant must submit evidence they listed for the flight and were present at the gate including a snapshot of the monitor showing their position on the standby list or a boarding pass to demonstrate that the flight was not full. A Flight Attendant must show a screenshot of seats available for sale within twenty-four (24) hours of departure or documentation showing sufficient availability for the flight.
5. The first three (3) Unable to Commute incidents, within a rolling active twelve (12)-month period, of the nature described in Paragraph I.3, will not be treated as attendance infractions so long as the Flight Attendant provides the required supporting documentation to their supervisor within seven (7) days of the Unable To Commute incident(s).
*A Flight Attendant that is removed or denied from occupying a jumpseat due to a weight restriction or an inoperative jumpseat, who consequently misses their sequence, shall have such sequence qualify under the Commuter Policy.
6. Crew Scheduling will have the option of assigning the commuter to any one of the following:
a. Split the Flight Attendant back on their original sequence;
b. Assign the Flight Attendant to any comparable sequence, i.e., same duty days;
c. Release the Flight Attendant from their duty and drop their original sequence. The Flight Attendant will be responsible to make up the time lost, if possible.
7. A Reserve who is assigned a future trip and released from Reserve duty pursuant to Reserve Duty, Section 12.J.11, and who is unable to arrive in crew base prior to check-in time shall be eligible for the protections of the Commuter policy provided the Flight Attendant complies with the provisions of Paragraph I.
Monthly Bidsheet Form
In case you haven’t heard, as part of our efforts to improve the bidsheet and better understand your preferences, we are introducing a new Monthly Bidsheet Feedback Form.
Click here to access the Monthly Bidsheet Feedback Form
This form is designed to collect your input on the bidsheet each month—what’s working well, what could be improved, and any specific suggestions you may have. Your feedback is invaluable and will help us make requests to the Company about the future sequences for MIA. The form is short, easy to complete, and should take no more than a few minutes of your time.

Sick/ IOD Flight Attendant at Outstation
No good deed goes unpunished and Inflight has taken the unfortunate position that if you accompany a crew member to a medical center or hospital at an outstation, you will receive a PO if you want to be removed from the trip. It is technically management’s responsibility to send someone to assist the crew member.
From the Professional Standards Desk
Professional Standards and EAP calls will now go through the hotline at 833.214.2002. Please use Professional Standards for issues on the airplane. Keep it out of the office.
In Solidarity,
