1.23.26 – APFA CLT Base Brief – Friday, January 23, 2026

Friday, January 23, 2026

In this hotline:

Reserves using T-Mobile as your carrier

We have seen an uptick in Missed Trips /Late Reports (and missed calls for UBL) with Flight Attendants that use this carrier. The company is saying the problem is on the Flight Attendant’s end that T-Mobile views call from crew scheduling as “spam” and will not allow the company phones to connect. Make sure you have voicemail notifications on. If on standby at the airport, check your schedule frequently.

Check your call blocking (make sure 800 numbers are not being blocked) and make sure you have crew scheduling saved with the 800-VIP-CREW number so it is recognized. Check your settings for do not disturb and call blocking. Reset if you see frequent crew scheduling numbers being blocked.

A Winter Storm Is Coming

If you have trips departing this weekend, keep track of the storm. Plan ahead as best you can. Commuters that fly, follow the commuter policy outlined in the CBA 37.I. List on the appropriate flights and keep documents of your flights and any cancelations/delays, including other airlines if you use them. Click here for more information on the Commuter Policy.

If you drive to work and cannot make it due to the storm (road closures, power outages, unsafe conditions etc.), call scheduling and give them as much of a heads up as possible. Keep an eye on your trip. We anticipate irregular ops and an adjustment to many of the trips in preparation for the storm. You may see partial cancelations and reschedules intended to catch you back up to your original trip so the system can rebound once the storm has passed. If you cannot make your trip, ask for a personal day and document, document document. Downed power line blocking your street? Document. Snowed in? Document. Damage to your house? Document.

The more documentation you have on your circumstances, the easier it is to correct or remove Missed Trips after the storm has passed and we can assess the damage and address it with the company. Keep in touch with your managers and let them know your situation.

Pay protections are outlined in section 10.J and 10.L of the CBA. We are closer to the end of the month, so it is more likely that sequences may be protected under the last sequence/last series pay protection. Here are some reminders if you are being rescheduled:

Are you canceled or rescheduled?

Our rescheduling language is broken down into different scenarios, including:

  • Prior to Report: Full sequence cancellation
  • Prior to Report: The first leg(s) of your trip has cancelled, and your sequence has a deadhead or live segments remaining.
  • Prior to Report: First segment(s) cancelled, no notification from crew scheduling.
  • After Report but Prior to Origination: Sequence changes (prior to first flight).
  • After Origination: Sequence changes.
  • Last Sequence/ Last Series of Sequences for the month.

Reminder for Lineholders using the UBL

When riding the UBL, trips may be awarded up to one hour prior to sign in. The two-hour call out only applies to reserves. Please factor this into your bidding and remove any bids for which you cannot make sign in. We want to be clear and transparent– while there have been instances where the CAMs have removed the late report, this is not guaranteed and is happening less frequently. Knowing the contract language and bidding accordingly is the best way to protect yourself. Keep track of your bids. There have been instances where a trip has been covered earlier in the day and the same trip opens again later in the day. If you still have an active bid, it will be honored. Remove bids when you are no longer able to make the call out time.

Reminder for Reserves

If you live close to the airport or are already there, our contract provides the Less Than Minimum Callout (LMCO) Waiver. This is a valuable protection, especially if you have received a Missed Trip (MT) and are trying to reduce it to a Late Report (LR) by picking up a sequence or standby shift. If you put in for LMCO, you get used prior to a standby (CBA 12.K.3). To use it, go to aggressive bids and apply the waiver. Knowing and using the contractual tools can help you protect your record and sometimes save on hotel costs for reserve commuters.

We are still seeing reserves receiving MTs for failing to acknowledge a sequence or standby shift in ROTA by 10:30 PM. If you experience any issue acknowledging, call scheduling immediately to verify the acknowledgment. These calls are recorded, and discipline is added to your MyView. Your CAM can request the recording or check with scheduling to confirm that you did indeed acknowledge prior to the 10:30 PM deadline.

We strongly encourage everyone to document everything. Take screenshots of ROTA acknowledgements, sign ins, completed WBTs, and anything else related to your schedule. Check your MyView at least once a week so you can verify nothing was placed erroneously on your record. Unfortunately, company IT issues are common, and protecting yourself is essential when the company is quick to issue discipline and points. You can verify your acknowledgements in ECS. This is also a protection confirmation kind of like a “receipt”. Please use this valuable tool.

Remember: You are required to check your schedule at the start of RAP B, C, and D to acknowledge any assigned sequence or standby. We are seeing an uptick in discipline related to this.

Staying informed, using the contract, and looking out for one another is how we reduce discipline, protect our co-workers, and strengthen our Union. If you have questions or run into issues, reach out to your Union reps early – we’re stronger when we act together. Document, Document, Document!

Take care of yourselves and each other.
