2.02.26 – APFA BOS Base Brief – A Statement From Your Boston Base President and Vice-President

A Statement From Your
Boston Base President and Vice-President

Monday, February 2, 2026

Dear Boston Flight Attendants,

We want to express our deep disappointment regarding the company’s failures during Winter Storm Fern. The company had ample time to prepare for the anticipated operational disruptions but failed to manage the situation effectively.

As early as January 22nd, Flight Attendants received communication from Managing Director of Inflight Operations, Darlyn Meador, filled with false promises. You were informed that if your sequences experienced disruptions, you would receive communication from Crew Scheduling. You were told that Crew Service Centers would be available to assist and that Inflight Operations Support (IOS) would be accessible after hours. Unfortunately, the majority of Flight Attendants received no communication from Crew Scheduling during disruptions and waited well beyond the contractual limits for their sequences to be repaired. While the Crew Service Centers were available, they were unable to book hotel rooms, provide Uber links, or even reach the personnel at Crew Scheduling/Tracking or the Hotel/Limo Desk.

On February 2nd, BOS Base President Luke Williams filed a Base Notice of Dispute (NOD) labeled 2026-BOS-4 regarding the impacts of Winter Storm Fern. In this dispute, we are requesting the following remedies:

  1. That no Personal Day (PO) awarded from January 24 to January 30 be counted toward the two contractually allowed.
  2. That any Missed Trips (TM/MT) issued during this period be recoded to XX (Excused Missed Trip) and not counted for disciplinary purposes.
  3. That any Late Reports (LR) incurred during the same dates be eliminated and not counted as the one excused late report in a rolling twelve-month period.
  4. That any Flight Attendant who received a Missed Trip from January 24 to January 30, after asserting on the phone to Crew Scheduling that a schedule change was illegal, be compensated as if they had remained on duty until they returned to base.

If you believe the company violated any of your CBA protections please click this link for an APFA Hotline about your next steps.

We want to be clear: this Base NOD is just the first step in holding American Airlines management accountable for their repeated failures in managing Irregular Operations (IROPs). Winter Storm Fern is not the first example of the company’s incompetence in handling such situations, and we believe that change will only occur if we force it to happen. Management must be reminded of their accountability to us, and we will hold them to that standard.

To American Airlines Management, we want to make one thing clear: we will not let this go.

This is not a fight we will conduct behind closed doors, hoping to appeal to their better nature, which we know to be non-existent. You have our commitment as your Base Leadership that, at every step, our goal will be to find ways for you to show management that you have not forgotten and are focused on holding them accountable. In the coming weeks, expect us to reach out and invite you to participate in internal campaigns designed to demonstrate our unity and show that we will no longer tolerate this mistreatment. Your anger is justified, and we are here to help channel that anger into positive change.

In Solidarity,

Luke Williams
