3.14.26 – TSA Workers Remain Unpaid

TSA Workers Remain Unpaid

Saturday, March 14, 2026

The partial government shutdown continues as Congress remains divided on funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Officers are considered essential workers and are required to work without pay.

Two weeks ago, Transportation Security Officers received only about 30% of their expected pay. Yesterday, they missed their first full paycheck while still reporting to work. These conditions place significant strain on the TSA employees who keep our aviation system secure.

“Transportation Security Officers are on the frontlines of aviation security, protecting millions of travelers every day, and ensuring that the entire aviation industry can operate. Requiring them to continue this vital work while worrying about missed paychecks and staffing shortages is unacceptable. As the cost of living continues to increase, who can afford to work full-time for free? TSOs are essential partners in maintaining the safety and security of our industry, and no one, but especially those who perform such critical work, should be forced to do so without compensation. The stability of the aviation industry depends on a fully funded and functional TSA. APFA stands with AFGE Council 100, and we urge lawmakers to fund DHS without delay.” –Julie Hedrick, President, Association of Professional Flight Attendants (APFA), representing the 28,000 Flight Attendants at American Airlines.

Until Congress reaches an agreement, TSA employees will remain unpaid, and travelers at airports nationwide will continue facing lengthy security lines and delays.

APFA stands in solidarity with AFGE and TSA employees. These professionals play a vital role in keeping Flight Attendants and passengers safe – we urge Congress to restore their pay now.

In Solidarity,
