DFW-Based Flight Attendant in Colombia:
A Heartbreaking Loss
DFW-based Flight Attendant Eric Fernando Gutierrez Molina, who went missing during a layover in MedellÃn, Colombia, has been tragically discovered.
In a deeply heartbreaking update, authorities have confirmed that Eric’s body was located between the municipalities of Jericó and Puente Iglesias during ongoing search efforts. It was also shared that Eric’s father, who remains in MedellÃn, has been personally notified of this devastating news. An official investigation is ongoing, and additional details have not yet been released.
This news is incredibly heavy and difficult to process. For many, it brings an overwhelming mix of shock, sadness, and heartbreak—feelings that are not easily put into words. Eric is not just a name or a headline—he is one of our own. He is a colleague who shared our skies, a familiar face in our operation, and someone who mattered deeply to those who knew and loved him.
Moments like this remind us how close-knit our community truly is. This loss is not isolated—it is felt across our entire Flight Attendant group, in every base, every crew room, and on every flight where we rely on one another for support. Even those who may not have known Eric personally can feel the weight of this tragedy.
We recognize that many of you may be trying to process this while continuing to work and care for our passengers. Please take the time you need. Check in on one another. Give yourself permission to pause, to step away if needed, and to acknowledge the impact this has on you.
Our hearts are with Eric’s longtime partner, his family, his friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside him. There are no words that can truly ease this kind of loss, but we stand together—in grief, in compassion, and in unwavering support.
Please remember—you are not alone. EAP Representatives are available and ready to support anyone who may need help, whether that’s resources, guidance, or simply someone to listen. Reaching out is not only encouraged—it’s important.

APFA has made available Incident Checklists that outline steps to take during serious events—whether inflight or on a layover. These resources include important contact information and support pathways: APFA Notification System for Critical Incidents
Take care of yourselves. Take care of each other. And lean on this community during this incredibly difficult time.
In Solidarity,
