Flights Between Phoenix and Anchorage Resume in Late-May

  • Seasonal Service:
    • Non-stop Phoenix (PHX) ↔ Anchorage (ANC) resumes May 21 – September 8
    • Operated on the Airbus A321neo
  • Flight Schedule:
    • PHX → ANC: Depart 7:11 PM → Arrive 11:52 PM (local)
    • ANC → PHX: Depart 11:42 PM → Arrive 6:11 AM (next day)
    • Layover: 22 hours
  • Operational Importance:
    • Supports high summer leisure demand to Alaska
    • Adds more flying opportunities and sequence variety
    • Reinforces PHX as a key gateway in the network
  • Staffing Update:
    • Flying will be assigned to PHX-based Flight Attendants
    • Supports base flying, schedule consistency, and crew alignment

More Than a Three (3) Hour Delay (After Report)

CBA Section 10.J.8. – “When a flight departure is delayed for more than three (3) hours, the Flight Attendant who is scheduled for such flight shall not be required to stand by and shall be relieved of duty at her/his request, provided that other Flight Attendants are available to replace her/him without increasing the delay. A Flight Attendant desiring to be released shall remain on duty until the relief Flight Attendant reports for duty. A Flight Attendant exercising this option shall forfeit any pay and credit that may be accumulated under any other Paragraph in Section 10.”

This provision applies at sequence origination only, not mid-sequence. You are not entitled to Call Out pay or pay protection, but you will receive the Duty Rig from report to release. Section 11.D.5. states, “A Flight Attendant shall receive a minimum of one (1) hour of pay and credit for every two (2) hours of actual on-duty time prorated on a minute-by-minute basis of actual on-duty time.”

Example:  You are delayed for more than three hours and request to be removed from your sequence. You reported at 1000 and are relieved and released at 1400. Your four hours on duty would generate two hours of pay. Once released, contact Crew Scheduling to ensure your release time is added so pay for the duty day can be added. If the pay is not generated by closeout, submit a Direct Connect.


Aggressive Reserve Hours and Calling Out of Time (COT)

CBA 12.K.4.b enhances how aggressive hours are viewed for Reserves when calculating RSVCOT (Reserve Calling Out of Time).

Only the first 40 Aggressive hours awarded will go toward your RSVCOT. Any aggressive hours awarded after the first 40 hours awarded aggressive will not go toward calling out of time.

What are aggressive hours?

When you are on a RAP and bid for a sequence, this is known as an aggressive bid. An award from this aggressive bid would be an aggressive award (aggressive hours). Future awards and assignments (ROTA) and daily assignments (ROTD) are not considered aggressive hours.

Direct Conflict (DC) vs. FAR Illegal (FI) Pay Protection

Direct Conflict (DC)

A Direct Conflict (DC) occurs when a delay to a sequence you are currently operating causes it to overlap with another sequence already scheduled on your line. A conflict exists when the release time of the first sequence overlaps the report time of the second sequence, making it impossible to report as scheduled.

When this occurs, the second sequence is removed from your schedule and coded as DC (Direct Conflict) on your HI1.

Example:

You report for a 2-day trip on March 15 at 1045 worth 10.00 hours of credit, scheduled to release on March 16 at 1800. You are also scheduled for a 1-day trip on March 17 with an 0800 report worth 5.00 hours of credit. Due to a mechanical delay, the first trip is rescheduled to release at 1000 on March 17, overlapping the 0800 report for the second trip.

Because the sequences overlap, the second trip is removed as a Direct Conflict. You are paid the combined value of both sequences (15.00 hours), but no additional credit is generated since the trips overlap.

FAR Illegality

A FAR Illegality occurs when two sequences are scheduled back-to-back and a delay to the first sequence reduces the rest period before the next sequence below the minimum rest required under Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs).

In this situation, the sequences do not overlap in time; however, the delay prevents the required FAR rest from being met. As a result, the second sequence becomes illegal to operate as scheduled.

When a FAR Illegality occurs, the Flight Attendant is pay protected for the full value of both sequences. Because the sequences do not overlap, the credit for each sequence is added together and paid in full even though the second sequence cannot be flown due to the FAR rest violation.


Arizona Earned Paid Sick Time – Key Points

  • Eligibility & Use
    • PHX-based Flight Attendants may use up to 40 hours per year
    • Covers:
      • Personal medical needs
      • Care for eligible family members
      • Other qualifying AZ Sick reasons
  • Annual Allotment
    • 40 hours provided each calendar year (Jan 1 – Dec 31)
    • This is NOT a separate bank
    • Sick time used is deducted from your existing sick bank
  • How Hours Are Determined on January 1
    • If you have 40+ hours → that becomes your AZ Sick allotment
    • If you have less than 40 hours → Company fronts you up to 40 hours
  • “Payback” Rule
    • If the Company adds hours to reach 40:
      • You must earn those hours back over time
      • Newly accrued sick time first offsets the credited amount
      • Your total available remains 40 hours until repayment is met
  • Example
    • Start with 10 hours on Jan 1 → Company adds 30 hours = 40 total
    • If you accrue 4.5 hours in January:
      • You still have 40 hours total (not 44.5)
      • Accrual goes toward “repaying” the credited 30 hours
  • Important
    • Additional sick hours will not increase your bank until credited hours are repaid
  • Key Benefit
    • If a sick call qualifies for AZ Sick:
      • Automatically recoded from SK → MS
      • Negative point is removed

Mandatory Meeting Representation

If the Crew Attendance Manager or your Crew Manager schedules a mandatory meeting, please set up the meeting and call 800-595-1471, ext. 4, for APFA PHX Representation. Please leave your name, employee number, phone number, and the date and time of the meeting. We request a notification at least 48 hours before the meeting to schedule a representative.


Right to Union Representation (CBA 35.R)

When meetings are held to investigate matters that could potentially lead to disciplinary action or dismissal, or when written statements are taken regarding such matters, the following conditions apply: If a Flight Attendant requests it, they shall have an APFA representative present. This applies also to meetings significant enough for the company to have witnesses or more than one company supervisor present.

In such cases, the meeting will be postponed for a reasonable period, not exceeding four (4) hours, to allow the APFA representative to arrive, as long as the Flight Attendant remains in the meeting location while waiting. The presence of the APFA representative will not interfere with the conduct of the meeting.
