5.02.26 – Standing Together: Supporting Our Spirit Airlines Family

Saturday, May 2, 2026
Hello Everyone,
As news of Spirit Airlines’ shutdown brings tremendous uncertainty, we recognize the years of sacrifice, commitment, and pride Spirit Flight Attendants and all employees have poured into building their airline. In this difficult moment, we hold onto the hope that brighter days lie ahead.
Over the last few days and into last night, APFA advocated for support for Spirit employees. We have secured a commitment to extend the reciprocal cabin seat agreement through May 9th, helping to ensure that Spirit Flight Attendants are not left stranded away from home. No Flight Attendant should have to navigate this uncertainty without the ability to return safely to their base and their families.
In addition, management has committed to prioritizing the hiring of Spirit employees where possible, and more information will be on the jobs.aa.comwesbite in the coming days. Their experience, professionalism, and dedication to this industry are undeniable, and we will continue to advocate for opportunities that recognize the value they bring to our profession.
To our Spirit Siblings: you are not alone.
We know this is more than a professional loss—it is deeply personal. The friendships, shared experiences, and pride you built together matter. Please know we are thinking of each of you, standing beside you, and lifting you up as you face the road ahead.
On behalf of 28,000 American Airlines Flight Attendants,

Julie Hedrick
APFA National President
