5.04.26 – APFA ORD Base Brief – June 2026 Staffing and Allocations

June 2026 ORD Staffing and Allocations

Monday, May 4, 2026

Happy May, Chicago.

Spring is winding down, leading to the busiest time of the year for us, summer flying.

Important Dates

  • June contractual Month: June 2 – July 1
July 1 – July 7 is deemed the “critical period” for attendance. Please review American Airlines Attendance and Performance Policy for information or reach out to your Crew Attendance Manager at [email protected].

  • Juneteenth – June 19
  • Father’s Day – June 21

T-5 Utilization – Domestic Flying

There have been reports of domestic sequences arriving at Terminal 5. ORD Base management has indicated that this is sporadic and should not last longer than the month of May.

Once the FAA mandated cuts begin on June 2nd, which will only impact regional flying in ORD, this will free up more gates in T3, which should eliminate the need to utilize T5 altogether.

Fashawna Whiteman is our base manager, and Ben Humphry is the VP of operations for ORD. They can be contacted at:

Allocations

June is one of the busiest months for flying. As the company said on the June staffing and allocations call, it is “all hands-on deck.” 25% of the hours in Chicago for June are on wide body aircraft – none of which is domestic.

MSP Satellite hours are down for June, we advocated to maintain the hours that the satellite base has shown the ability to maintain, yet they are down for June compared to May.

Staffing

June has an anticipated target credit range (TCR) higher than May, which means people should try take the hours bid into account when bidding opens. For more information on the TCR review the PBS Guide, starting on page 67.

Chicago will see new hire classes continue through the rest of the month, into June. Please continue to welcome them and give them guidance that only experience can bring.

The reserve numbers are inflated compared to previous months. The company continued to emphasize these numbers are needed to help protect the operation. We will monitor how the reserves are being utilized to cover open time.
