5.08.26 – APFA DFW Base Brief – June 2026 Staffing and Allocations

June 2026 Staffing and Allocations

Friday, May 8, 2026

Hello DFW,

Summer is upon us, and with it comes a wide range of changes across our operation. From consistently high load factors and families traveling during school breaks to once-a-year vacation travelers and the added impact of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, this summer is shaping up to be one of the busiest in recent years.

American Airlines, as an official airline partner of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is preparing for significant operational demand throughout the tournament. A total of 78 matches will be hosted across the United States, and American will be supporting portions of the operation with charter flying, additional capacity, and unique city pairings tied to team and event transportation. Some of this flying has already been incorporated into the planned bid sheet through larger aircraft and added sequences, but Flight Attendants should continue monitoring open time as additional flying opportunities are expected throughout the tournament. The first match begins June 11, with the tournament concluding July 17.

Commuters: Please plan ahead. If your crash pad or hotel offers reservations, secure them early and ensure you have backup plans in place over the next several months as loads and travel demand continue to increase systemwide.

Here at our hub, the 13-bank structure is beginning to show positive operational results across multiple departments. From a Flight Attendant perspective, we have seen a reduction in reassigned crews and fewer instances of reserves being used to cover misconnecting crews from other bases through our hub. While the data set is still relatively new, management has advised that if reliability and operational trends continue improving, reserve numbers are expected to decrease moving forward.

That said, do not expect significant reductions during the peak summer operation through August. However, by September, we anticipate the overall reserve percentage at the base to trend downward year-over-year. Your APFA team directly challenged leadership regarding reserve utilization after expressing serious concerns over the increase compared to June 2025 levels. Importantly, despite the higher reserve percentage, no additional senior Flight Attendants were displaced back onto reserve, as the increase was largely offset through the addition of new hires to the base.

A few noteworthy improvements on the domestic side of the bid sheet include:

  • Increased productivity on 1-leg and 2-leg duty days while also reducing overall duty length
  • Reduced duty periods on multi-leg sequences, contributing to longer layovers
  • The lowest percentage of short overnights we have seen in years
  • A slight increase in longer sits (approximately 2–2.5 hours), primarily during evening banks, designed to keep aircraft on the ground longer and reduce passenger misconnects on the final departures of the night

As always, the charts and informational bullet points included in this Base Brief are intended to assist you in making informed bidding decisions. Many Flight Attendants should continue seeing improvements in the quality of flying they are able to hold as the hub operation continues to expand and stabilize.

Thank you for everything you do each day. Safety and service remain the hallmarks of our profession, and DFW continues to lead in both areas because of your professionalism and dedication.

Fly safe, stay informed, and know your contract.

Important Dates:

ODANs account for 7.8% of all NB sequences at approximately 67.8 ODANs originating each day.

Fly safe and stay vigilant out there. Thank you for your dedication and professionalism.
